rocktorrentz
I've got a standard P5B. Currently downloading the kalyway dvd image, any tips or information would be much appreciated. I intend to install on an old IDE (PATA) hard disk, which I know may be an issue. evopanop
I've got a P5B mobo variant, as well. Specs in sig. Currently Kalyway is at approx. 6% for me. However, iATKOS is at 91% currently. I will be trying out both, most likely. I'll make sure to let you all know how it goes. ted spikes
Well, include me in your updates. I have the P5B-VM as well I have been trying to get it to work with EFI-V8, I tried a flat install with the standard 3 patches from a Retail Leopard disk, it starts to look like it is working. I see the grey screen with the apple on it but then up pops a "Not allowed symbol" a circle with a strike through it (heard someone refer to it as a no smoking sign, just about laughed my ass off). And that is where it stops. Any tips at this point appreciated. Plucka
Hey everybody, I have just tried and failed my first Kalyway install on a P5B, at reboot I get this erroor ''0error'' Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be? I had the bios set as follows: Sata to ACHI and Jmicroncontroler disabled for the initial install. After reboot got the above error and after that I changed the settings to get NTLDR not found error. Anyone reading this I hope there is someone out there that knows what to do as I have had the computer on for days and nights trying to DL this sucker, what a bummer if it turns out not to work! Hope to hear from someone very soon, like in the next five minutes after posting this reply, cheers, Plucka Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77142-asus-p5b-deluxe-motherboard-and-kalyway-1051-dvd/#findComment-546083 Share on other sites
rocktorrentz
I have no experience with OSX yet but "NTLDR not found" is a windows thing. I think you need to install some kind of bootloader. evopanop
Well, so far iATKOS is a no go. Magic ISO showed that the ISO was non-bootable, but I decided to go ahead and try it anyway. I went ahead and tried to boot from the disc, and it comes up with "System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found" I'll try another burning program and try the disc again. If it still doesn't work then I guess I'll try the Kalyway release when it's done. rocktorrentz
Just tried the install with my vanilla P5B and the install goes fine (using usb dvd-rom) but I get the "/com.apple.Boot.plist not found" error on reboot. I'm pretty sure this is down to my using an IDE hard disk on the Jmicron chip; I have tried with both Vanilla and Sleep kernels. However on the Kalyway release post it mentions being compatible with Jmicron. Is there any way I can make this install work from my linux or windows installs (without buying another SATA disk)? nofearl
Got Kalyway working on P5B Deluxe Installed on an external drive If you get 0error it means partition is not active If you get com.apple.Boot.plist or "NTLDR not found" it means you didnt select GUID Tips: In Bios "Execute Disable Function"=Enabled ACPI 2.0 Support=Yes Speedstep=Disabled Before selecting the target disk for installation open Disk Utility, select your disk, go to partition, select "1 partition", click advanced, select GUID, apply, you can also select MBR but make sure you select MBR thing in the Customize menu (last one) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77142-asus-p5b-deluxe-motherboard-and-kalyway-1051-dvd/#findComment-547856 Share on other sites

PortVortex
I have the P5B-VM DO MoBo and currently running Leopard 10.5.1, With 10.5 ToH Kernel. I started with the Flat-img install, edited most of the .kext there is, downloaded the 10.5.1 upgrade from www.apple.com and installed it. Rebooted into Windows and exchanged the mach_kernel. Booted Leopard and it works like a charm Still having difficulties with the onboard LAN Intel 82566DM (eprom checksum error), only 2ch Audio with "Azalia", No QE and only soft CI on my 7950GT. but everything else on the board is ok, USB, CPU, RAM, PCIe, FireWire, S-ATA (Jmicron) havent testing the Intel ICH8R Raid because i don´t want to kill my 2x500Gb raid i have all my data at Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77142-asus-p5b-deluxe-motherboard-and-kalyway-1051-dvd/#findComment-548000 Share on other sites

Plucka
Hi guys, sorry to keep coming up with this question, but does someone know how to fix shutdown? A few of us have to shutdown by holding the power button in, any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome? rocktorrentz
I selected GUID in the disk utility. Then I selected vanilla kernel, nvidia (desktop) and guid bootloader in customise, but i'm still getting the boot.plist error when I reboot from setup. There must be something really obvious i'm doing wrong; what is it? I'm using a vanilla P5B with an IDE hard drive on the jmicron chip. Daimajin
I have a P5B deluxe. I selected GUID in the disk utility, chose vanilla kernel and ati natit package. I don't remember what else I installed. I have a SATA harddrive plugged into the jmicron black sata port in the back. The jmicron is set to AHCI mode while my other harddrives run as enhanced ide mode. I have USB legacy mode turned off and a few other options changed from default which I'm not sure make a difference. If you have anymore questions just ask and I'll try to help you out. vinlar
I have successfully installed and run both iATKOS 1.0ir2 and Kalyway 10.5.1. The BIOS revision and settings both appear to be important. Appropriate BIOS settings are included in the FAQ/README for iATKOS and Kalyway; these include IDE=AHCI and Enable Execute Disable Bit=Enabled. Now for the kicker... I was NOT able to get either version to install on the latest ASUS BIOS. Reverting back to version 1101 fixed everything. Those with problems should check their BIOS version. Reverting your BIOS is a pain in the backside. The BIOS files are readily available on the ASUS website. To revert your BIOS you will need to find a bootable DOS floppy/memory stick/CDROM (I used CDROM). The AUFDOS tool can also be downloaded from ASUS. The trick is that you need an old version of AUFDOS to be able to force a BIOS downgrade. You can get version 2.11 from ftp.asus.com in the /pub/ASUS/mb/flash directory. The other important note is that you MUST setup the target drive as an MBR partition if you want to use iATKOS. Kalyway supports both GUID and MBR partition types. This is an easy one to overlook. The vanilla kernel and EFI work fine for me with either iATKOS or Kalyway. I'm currently using Kalyway because I wanted to keep my OS on a GUID partition. You do not need to select an option driver for Kalyway 10.5.1 on a P5B. Check that your audio in the BIOS is set to "AC97". That should do the trick for you. xhidex
Hi guys, I have asus P5B with iAtkos. FOr me the sistem is running really fast and stable: I have sata disk on intel controller with ahci enabled. Jmicron work in ide but cannot boot from it. Just got an Ide-sata converter and I can boot from install disk, or use a external drive. When leo it's running the ide jmicron work fine. I can burn dvd, cd etc... The only problem that I got it's the hang on shutdown. Simply, don't shut down properly. I hear the disks shut down, the system closed but the computer still power on. I have to keep pressed the button than I can shutdown. For usb work fine with any settings. Ah, my iAtkos it's a first release with efi support and vanilla. Somebody know how to fix the shutdown problem????
