$149 Gigabyte GA-p35c-ds3r

Processor:

$279 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz

Video Card:

$279 PNY Geforce 8800GTS 320MB

RAM:

$ 50.99 OCZ DDR2 800 2GB (2x1GB)(x2 if you want 4GB)

DVD Burner:

$ 24.99 LITE-ON 20X DVD-RW(does dvd+dl too) burner

Case and PSU:

$ 44.99 cooler master(random case I saw)

$ 39.99 Rosewill Power supply(450W)

Total: $ 864 (am looking something near $600.00 ofcourse with no operating system.)

I know it's a bit over your goal of 600, but this rig will ensure you won't break your bank too badly, it'll be powerful for a few years, and it'll be 100% mac compatible(sleep as always will be an issue, and shutdown/restart is quirky, but it's a great board; I use it now in my Mizuki PC) with minimal patching.

Some things you could do to reduce cost (based on DaxTsurugi's suggestion):

* Lower the video card down to a 7600GT or maybe a 7900. If you don't need bleeding edge gaming performance you don't HAVE to go with a 8800 and besides, you could always upgrade the video card later if needed

* Lower the CPU down a bit. Q6600 is GREAT if you can afford it but for pretty good performance you could always go with a Core 2 Duo Exxxx series CPU like the E6750 or the E6600 and that will lower down the cost by close to $100.

Here is my suggestion:

Motherboard: Gigabyte-P35-DS3P

$152.99

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz

$189.99

Video Card: XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB PCI Express

$87.99

RAM: OCZ Platinum 2GB DDR2 800

$50.99

DVD Burner: Lite-On 20x DVD +/- R LightScribe SATA (I had to add a more expensive SATA drive because the motherboard doesn't like IDE with OSX)

$37.99

Case: Cooler Master Centurion 534 ATX Mid Tower

$49.99

PSU: Antec EarthWatts 430W

$69.99

Total: $629.93

It will give good performance with a good price ;)

Good setup. You can drop the price even more by going with the E6550, or even an E4500.

The problem with what you want is that you're looking for a powerful gaming machine that will last for a while. You have two options for that. Eventually your'e going to have to pay up for a good video card, which is where the real cost is going to be. You can get a decent P35 series mainboard for around $150, and if you're really going budget you could save about $50 dollars getting an E4500 and OCing it to 3.0GHZ, which will still be an underclock on your FSB. I'd say, budget wise your best bet performance to cost would be something like this:

CPU

Intel Core2Duo E4500 w/ an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 OC to 3.0 GHz $150

Mobo

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L $96

RAM:

G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 $100

HDD

Samsung 500GB $115

VGA

Saphire HD3850 512MB Flavor $200<---- Best bang for your buck this series

DVD DRIVE

Samsung Sata DRIVE $30

Case

Raidmax Smilodon $80 <----- great cooling + fold out mobo tray makes install a breeze

PSU

550W+(just to be safe) $110 for a good one

Total of around $881 no shipping @ newegg $872.91 $762.91 with a 7600GT

I know it's more than you want to spend, but with a computer, especially one you want to game with for a long time, you shouldn't go skimping.
