Will it really be that good of a deal when you can already pick-up a E2140 Allendale 1.6GHz for $75?
True. 512k cache shared between the two cores is actually really going to hurt performance. I would also much rather get a 2xxx or 4xxx series, for 1 or 2mb of cache.

since gaming and rendering is not part of what i'm doing with my hackintosh i don't need all that power a c2d offers.

btw the cheapest allendale is about 120€

my s420 celeron with 1,6 perfectly satisfies me, with those 4gb ram (of which i can of course only use 3,2 or something due to chipset limitations with my board, also cheap :D , but ram is nearly for free if its just 800)

even coverflow which i use to browse my videos (over 100 with over 300mb each) is working like a charm.

a faster hdd would give me more than a c2d.

low power consumption and low price is what matters for me.

these things are shipping now. Anyone had a chance to try it out? EFI? Vanilla?mmmmm......vanilla
It's the same as the e21** series chips, it just has half the cache. My E2140 is running the Vanilla kernel just fine. I don't think you would have any problems with this chip.
