MacVertigo
I'm pretty excited to see the final version of Office 2008... its a vital part of my day to day business. I hate supporting microsoft.. but office is a nessasary evil. But I assure you I will not pay for it. So I figured I'd put this on here so we can post rumors, dates of release, and of course.. where to find it first. Berzerker
January 18th. It's already set. If you buy Office 2004, any version, you get Office 2008 for the shipping cost. $7. I bought Office 2004 student and teacher, which was $125, and I got a $100 rebate from Amazon. So I get Office 2004 and Office 2008 for $32. However, the $100 rebate was only on Black Friday. But the microsoft deal for $7 Office 2008 goes on until 2008 comes out. Kinseek
but office is a nessasary evil. Well, I`d say Office for Mac is a very well made software, unlike most other things microsoft makes. I actually enjoy using it on the mac. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75232-mac-office-2008/#findComment-532139 Share on other sites
Amuraivel
Office is still he best office suite out there. Don't give me the BS about openoffice and iWork (two more update cycles for iWork), they are decent, but not the solid staple, which word has become. It is both a necessary evil AND a good product. MS Office is a good product. Office for MAC is a not great...I find it slow even on PPC and slightly glitchy. The beta 2008 for mac is a piece of buggy trash at the moment. skyhighmac
iWork is great. Pages is better than Word, Numbers better than excel, and keynote is way better than powerpoint. jcosmide
Pages is useless but Keynote is great and makes Powerpoint look like caveman art. The beta is buggy as {censored}, it'll just close for no reason. It looks great though, much Mac-ier I'm sticking with 04 til a better release comes along. X-Ray Mac
I don't like Office 2004 for Mac.. Just doesn't run nearly as smooth as iWork has for me. I'm anxious for Office 2008 though, I never tried out the Beta. aduffbrew
For those needing to collaborate on complex files and don't want the to spend the time or hassle with even minor incompatibilities, Office 2008 is their ticket to nirvana. I've used the beta and have to admit I am impressed. It's the most Mac-centric release to date. It's slick and doesn't look half bad doing it. I can't help but think most Office users have been hoodwinked into thinking it's a "must have!" I have yet to see anyone use more than a fraction of its features. No doubt some do. Why else would Microsoft cram it to the rafters with all that capability? Personally, iWork '08 isn't a bad alternative... and compatibility has yet to be a problem for me. Factor in the price difference and I'd say don't give me the whole Microsoft BS! *laugh* NeoOffice is pretty decent too... and it's free. It boils down to knowing your needs and exploring your options. If you're only buying Office for basic Word compatibility, you really are a nitwit. If you're pirating Office to get back at the evil empire, you're only contributing to their market domination. If you really need it, send a message to Microsoft's competitors and go for it. Ernest Defoe
I am not gonna say which is better I am just gonna say that I am more used to Word as opposed to Pages. I have both Office 2004 and iWork '08, and haven't really played with iWork that much. Gonna give it a go one day soon, but like I said I am more used to Office as that is what we use at work for spreadsheets and presentations, and things. So far both seem to have their pluses....don't know much about minuses.
