Is it possible? I tried downloading the package and extracting just safari, but it screwed things up. Apple doesn't seem to want me to download it on it's own and the 10.4.11 update definitely breaks my machine. Suggestions? Maybe i didnt extract everything i needed with Pacifist?

I've just tried to install Safari 3 (I used Pacifist to extract and install the package) and it screwed up my Safari completely, Safari wouldn't run after that at all. I had to reinstall Safari 2 from my Uphuck 10.4.9 install disk.

There must be a way!!!

right-click safari 3 app after you've installed it using pacifist, "Show Package Contents", go to MacOS folder inside, and double-click the "Safari" filename. Terminal shall open, listing the Framework dependencies that need to be upgraded. Take note of the framework dependencies, Java is one, i forgot the other, then install using pacifist from the 10.4.11 Combo Update from apple. As an addition, you can find the needed Framework dependencies on the 10.4.11 Combo Update thru Pacifist by sorting through the System/Library/Frameworks package. Safari 3 runs on my laptop running 10.4.9. Good Luck.

Are you doing this in a terminal or with the graphic interface? Sometimes, using the graphic interface OS X doesn't allow me to do some admin-only tasks, so try to do that with the terminal.

PS: I've ended up using the PC EFI patch and installing the official apple updates to my Hackintosh, so... no more hacks needed :)

simplely edit the systemversion.plist in System/Library/Coreservice/

change your mac version to 10.4.11 then you can install it.

hello there...

i know the topic is a little bit older - but as i installed Leopard a few days ago and couldnt get it stable on my AMD64 3200+ (SSE2) i decided to switch back to 10.4.9 (which i have changed via System Version Changer to 10.4.11 to get iWork 08 running on it).

So after i saw the enhanced tab-browsing i would like to get Safari running here on that sytem - but after i installed like described above (with Pacifist) i get the same Safari-Crashes like i did on Leopard. Now i am not sure if thats a matter of wrong installation or if Safari 3 is still too buggy...

When i installed Safari from the Apple Combo Update and opened Terminal i found this:

Last login: Sat Mar 1 14:34:59 on console

/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit

Welcome to Darwin!

noname:~ doolak$ /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit

dyld: Symbol not found: _WebIconDatabaseImportDirectoryDefaultsKey

Referenced from: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari

Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/WebKit

Trace/BPT trap

logout

[Process completed]

So i searched for WebKit with Pacifist and installed it. Afterwards i had to install two other Framework-components (one of them Java) and everything seemed to be fine.

But when i use Safari it crashes allways. For example if i want to log in in this forum...

I opened again the terminal and found this:

Last login: Sat Mar 1 16:57:12 on ttyp1

/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit

Welcome to Darwin!

noname:~ doolak$ /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit

Any idea?

Is it maybe not a good idea to use Safari 3 with AMD SSE2?

Or is it maybe not a good idea to use Safari 3 in general as long it is not really stable?

I got 10.4.11 running well on my sse2 Dell Optiplex GX270 with 6200 Nvidia 256Mb AGP card. I had JaS 10.4.9 running on it (with sse2 kernel).

I made a backup of my JaS 10.4.9 install to an external USB harddrive. Installed XxX 10.4.10, made sure to select the sse2 kernel and system.kexts, login 10.4.4 window

I did run into a small snag with USB support but this disc also caters for some generic USB chipsets to be supported so that was easily fixed. It is close to JaS in regard to compatibility and ease of use on sse2 machines. Don't expect to get DVD player working, but all other 10.4.11 software works great, including Safari 3

Oh, and I used the migration assistant to get my settings and files across the new 10.4.11 installation.

I even got Doom3 and Prey running on this configuration! So there is a sse2 compatible 10.4.11 installation disc out there ;-P
