TimeMachine
My Dell is getting old and its time for a new computer, but shall it be a mac or pc? I am a LONG time user of window, but after visiting the apple store and fiddling aroung with tiger at my friends, I was hooked. But I decided to wait for the launch of leopard before I bought a mac (I was one of those people in line waiting to get a free t-shirt). But after looking around the Osx86 Project, I wondered if I should just buy a new computer, save some money and suffer through putting leopard on it. I am leaning toward the mac side, but what do you think? lessew
I'd really suggest getting a real Mac. I played with OSX86 for a while, and then migrated both laptop and desktop to Macs. Much less hassle than OSX86. The integration with hardware and software is seamless... so you have a better likelihood of reliability as well. On that note, I'd suggest looking at the refurbished Macs under the 'special deals' section of the online store. You can save quite a bit by getting a refurbished one. They also come with the same one year warranty as new Macs do, and are eligible for the extended Apple Care, if you so choose. steadybootleggin
if you want a notebook.....get a mac (got one ,money well spent) if you want a desktop.......BUILD a hack. follow Onetrack's guide and build http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=72493 after you get it going it'll be perfect . with time machine, back up is not a prob and with the new efi for osx86, you can update right from apple, and i think the $$ is like $600 bucks....it has gotta be like way more than 2k for a just about equal mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74804-i-want-leopard-but-dont-know-if-i-should-go-the-extra-for-a-mac-or-go-through-the-trouble-of-osx86/#findComment-528478 Share on other sites
xplizid
go mac and dont look back . I was in your shoes a year ago, I ended up buying a Dell which has no warranty unless purchased. It was fully functioning hackintosh until a week ago when the graphics card gave out OS X issue Im not sure i doubt it but could be the issue. The efi was nice but my mbp is far more stable and with built in isight and mic even if you dont use is fun to play with I am happy on splurging on it and not getting a windows machine even if it is compatible because for the most part theres always going to be issues with hacks - One is sleeping most dont sleep worth a {censored}, seocond I had 2 cd/dvd drives on reboot if disc was in it would open. Another weird thing was i couldnt burn a cd in itunes with my cdrw drive. but worked with my superdrive. Also you'll save time not worrying about if an update will break your system and the initial struggle getting hardware to work. All in all the Dell was a good machine costing 500 less than that of an imac with about the same specs at the time and ran tiger and leopard perfectly I was a windows user and wasnt sure on os x yet. Boy was i wrong Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74804-i-want-leopard-but-dont-know-if-i-should-go-the-extra-for-a-mac-or-go-through-the-trouble-of-osx86/#findComment-529211 Share on other sites

dnjmarlboro
My thoughts: if you are a gamer = go hackintosh if you are NOT a gamer = go to steve I really would like to buy an imac but the gpu holds me back... Rufus T. Firefly
if they weren't so damn xpensive I'd definitely get a Mac but OSX86 suites me just fine Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74804-i-want-leopard-but-dont-know-if-i-should-go-the-extra-for-a-mac-or-go-through-the-trouble-of-osx86/#findComment-530469 Share on other sites
nagal
My thoughts. Doing the hack route can be fun but I am tired of it. I want a Mac Pro so I can just get to working. So I have applied for a personal loan to see what I can get. Luckily I can still use a lot of my old stuff (Monitors, Hard Drives) then sell off my leftovers to help pay down the loan.
