Back when I had no clue, and lots of problems installing Leopard, I had the same Issue.

 

When I booted up without any additional kernel flags, there were errors about FireWire, as far as I remember.

 

I tried -x and booting worked, but there was exactly the same Issue with "Do you already own a mac" like you are experiencing.

 

I think that one can't not pass that process in -x mode, because it can't detect parts of your hardware correctly.

 

Later I figured out that I had to disable FireWire in BIOS, to pass the booting process without any errors, and without any kernel flags.

 

Now I changed FireWire back to enabled, and it's no problem, it works very nice.

It must be disabled to install though.

 

Please boot up in verbose mode (-v), and tell us the exact errors.

 

@mantogo:

 

Disable FireWire in your BIOS to pass that error, later on, when you have Leopard running, just re-enable it.

 

It does indeed show an error about Security with Firewire

I will disable Firewire and see if it works

In will also try -v and if it gives errors i will report it too you but i think it doesn't :S it looks like it just stops in the middle of the loading process

when i try to install the Leopard for AMD Version it shows some Fireware failure and it set to highest security level when grub loading

 

after it not processing to next level and i waited for 15 mintutes.. nothing happens

can you guide me how to overcome with this error

 

Mantogo - This probably won't help you at all but I have always had that error when I boot and it has never been a problem for me :mellow:

 

 

My network card doesn't work for Windows Live CD either(Live CD with many repairing tools)

While Windows Live CD internet does work with other pc's

I have an ASUS M2N-E SLI Motherboard

Wich uses Nvidia Nforce Chipset

 

Well if you have another nic card I would try that, if not I am not sure what you can do :mellow:

Ok ive tried -x and the other option. It boots i get the getting started bit with identifing your keyboard where u are ect, I then get to the bit about weather or not you want to transfer data from another mac i select no and then it just goes back to the begining. Any Ideas?

leadmac did your os x installed at once or did you get the "about a minute left" bug? if you didnt get that error do this "Reboot back into the DVD installation in the same manor as before. Do NOT format the drive, Relabel or enter the disk utility at all. Continue through the installation, this time it will finish installing successfully, and quicker as it will only install the missing files."(got it from wiki).

 

i had the same problem when i choose another country beside USA :mellow:) or keyboard layout :mellow:)

ok guys, im out of ideas with transmac. is there any other software i can use to do this same thing? i cant get past this damn "cant write to mac disk" error...

 

Here's what I did.

 

1. Tools -> Disk/CD/DVD Image -> Save Images of CD/DVD -> Choose your DVD and location of the .dmg file.

2. Wait.

3. Open it up via TransMac (Mac drive -> Volume Image file).

4. Should be edittable now.

 

Hope that helps. Now, I need to chmod/chown this thing. Great.

OSX installed perfetly first time i did go into disk utiltiy though to wipe the partition. I will go and have another go at installing osx

Still won't boot withouth -x

Oh and the errors i think it may have something to do with my graphics card because it said something with Geforce too,i have an unsupported Club3D Nivdia Geforce 8500GT 512MB card

You have read that you need to boot off of the DVD after installation and remove all the Ge* kexts and the NV* kexts right :)

SAM Multimedia: read or write failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x04, ASC =0x08, ASCQ=0x03

 

how to overcome with this error :)

This is exactly the same that comes when I disable the firewire. But now I burn another disk and check if dvd-rw is the problem.

This is a {censored} error and it caused me headaches :) . Finally it turn out that my dvd was scratched and i had to re-burn it at a lower speed.

Did you have a look at our Wiki? blubyu is right.

 

boot with -s

mount -uw /

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Ge*.kext

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NV*kext

exit

Later on, you will have to use Patched Leo Vid Kexts, which include Natit.

I don't know whether it works with 8500GT, sorry.

 

Works like a charm with my 7600GT.

ok ive reloaded osx.5, i now get past the do you want to transfer data from another mac, and then it just goes to a grey screen with the beach ball going round and it just sits there. any ideas?

 

Are you transfering data from another mac (Tiger volume maybe) or are you saying no to the transfering data? I have read that if you choose to not transfer data it hangs right where it is hanging for you. Some people have just kept reinstalling and eventually they are able to get past that screen.

 

If you are transfering data from another mac, then you need to only transfer the user data. There is a guide on page 9 of this thread that talks about this.

I do, but it's intermittnet. I turn it off while I play CS:S and FEAR. It's on usually during the night, but DSL Sucks for me.

Plus, Rev2 should be out soon.

Hi gang,

 

Firstly, a big thank you to Zephroth, for everything you do for the scene mate!

 

Secondly and admittedly this is probably the dumbest thing to ever do and then ask about later, but I installed Leopard on an Asus A8N-SLI (vanila) + Athlon64 4600 x2 & 4GB RAM almost perfectly. Once in Leopard, keen to experiment I thought I would install all the available Leopard update (force of habit, what with being a Windows user 'n all lol!) After the installs & reboot, if I try to click on anything the spinning beach ball thing loops forever with no result, and you cant do anything until you hard power down the PC via the power button on the unit.

 

Any ideas guys? Or has anyone also come across this and fallen into the trap like me?...

I am new to Mac OS X, and I m trying to install with file mentioned on the first page. I am getting an error approx 3-5 minutes in during the install process! In yellow " Install Failed" Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer The installer could not install some files in /Volumes/Untitled. I have read all 65 pages and have not seen this mentioned, Any help would be great. Thank you in advance!

YES!!!, finally i got Mac installed on my pc that removing Geforce kexts worked :D

 

Thanks i will defiantly try that(But i don't have inet connection on mac so want to fix that first)

 

Maybe you can also help me with these things:

1-I have no internet connection i passed it with the first boot config, because it didn't work on first settings and i thought i will do it later but now i have no idea how to configure it(If it does find my network card), it only shows me settings for a phone modem when i click Network

please help me with that biggest problem i have now

2-USB seems to work otherwise my mice didn't work, but when i connect my iPod Classic nothing happens no itunes :D can this be fixed?

3-I think i need drivers for sound right?, did not test it yet but i doubt it works right a way

4-PS/2 Doesn't work, i did the kext thing that was at known isues on the wiki but still can use :(
