New AMD DVD for leopard

Using the tutorial on the first page I've been able to get passed step 5:

 

5. In the command window, type:

 

>> List disk

>> Select disk [disk #]

>> List partition

>> create partition primary id=af

>> active

 

However, when I try to format the free space as HFS Journaled in disk utility, it fails and times out after a half hour. I've tried now 4 times repeating the steps over and over but get no luck. I even tried making free space at the beginning of my HD (moving XP back) but the results are the same and XP is damaged. Is there a step I'm missing?

I think your sata controller might not be compatible with OS X, that happened to me and I bought an external usb drive to try to install. Hopefully I will have better luck.....

anyone pls help.. i cant boot leopard using -x option.. however, on the part of migration assistant i choose not to transfer information.. it just gets back to detecting the keyboard... how can i edit gforce kexts if i cant log on using safe mode??

 

I got the same problem any one have solution ?

That sucks. Is there a compatibility list somewhere so I can check? I have a pretty standard nForce 570 chipset so I'm hoping it's something else...anyone with the same?

I have the nForce 570 SLi on my board and as mine is read only, I use a removable ATA drive for my osx installs and that works fine.

Hello from India! I have for some time reading this topic and frankly haven't been too encouraged by the reactions. But I have some free time now, so I burnt your disc. It worked...

 

I have an ancient Sempron 2800+. 256 MB RAM. VIA chipset. 32 MB shared video memory. Had to install a couple of times. Both times the installer stuck before completion. Frustrated I rebooted. Kernel Panic. Rebooted again...Hallelujah!

 

Leopard running. No hassles. No lockups. Just some severe disk thrashing. But that's due to the meagre hardware I think. Everything works. To say I am surprised is to understate things. Thanks a lot!

 

And wait till you hear this. I installed over an existing JaS AMD 10.4.8. Everything preserved. Accounts, personal data everything.

Nobody has anymore ideas for me to try?

In case you don't want to read my other posts here is my problem.

I cannot use any mouse or keyboard combo, no PS/2 mouse and keyboard and no USB mouse and keyboard

It basically gets to the language select screen and doesn't work.

I've tried unplugging and plugging back in, tried not plugging in until screen pops up...doesn't work.

Help?

 

Again i bump my problem...

I cannot emphasize how bad i need help...

ive got leopard successfully installed.. but i cant boot into it.. it shows lots of lines with text on it and freezes with the last line saying about Darwin kernal something then Toh's Kernal.. i also see some lines before that where i see words like panic.. what exactly would i need to check on my screen if its a kernal panic or something, so i can report it to you guys to know whats the issue?

 

i also cant boot with using -x

it doesnt detect my keyboard and mouse when i get to a blue screen with an image that says i dont have a keyboard connected and need to connect one to proceed. im using a PS2 keyboard and mouse.

 

also my windows xp now on partition 1 seems to be running very sloooooooooooooow and its not behaving properly eg. cant open my computer, parts of the OS freezing, etc.

 

pls help..

i can only help you with the keyboard and mouse...you MUST get a USB keyboard and USB mouse otherwise your stuck there as far as i know, and for the rest of your other problems can't help mate. Well the kernel panic sounds like more wrong loaded drivers for your graphic card. I hope you didn't tick the box to install the drivers for 8xx series cards unless you got one of them, if not than thats what most likely is to cause e kernel panic.

 

Plz give us the hardware specs you installed leopard on.

no i didnt select to install the 8xx series drivers.. i unchecked all except the x11 thing as i didnt know what it was for.

Speaking of network adapters, my on-board adapter used to work in Tiger with a patch. Does anybody know if the old patch can be used with Leopard? I also have a Realtek 8139 PCI adapter which seems to be detected but does not work.

 

Any tips on making the system boot without -X and enabling one of the network adapters?

 

My hardware (the important bits):

Asus A8N-SLI MoBo (nForce 4 SLI)

Opteron 165 Processor

ATi Radeon X1950Pro PCIE graphic card

A bunch of SATA and IDE drives (all are detected and work)

DVD Burner (is detected, works)

Old SBLive! soundcard (not detected, but I expected it - haven't tried onboard audio yet, but it used to work in Tiger)

I`ve "Installed" The Leopard on a PC with MB: Asus m2n DH with AMD CPU but there is a lot of problems.

First I tried with SATA HDD but it wasn`t able to format it. Then I put a IDE HDD and the install starts but wen it is about to over it freezes at the last screen of the installation where it says "About a minute" but that "About a minute" took more then 1 hour and noting happened ... it just died ...

 

If someone know how to deal with this problem PLS tell me ... I`ve got all the hardware compatible and it`s still not working ...

No, you would still need to use a USB keyboard and mouse, unless there is a workaround that i'm not aware of..!

How can I make the installer to load the kexts from 10.4.10 which are needed for the ATA controller?

 

Version 10.4.10 (Tubgirl) works fine, but Leo doesn't seem to recognize my ATA controller: I can format my PATA disk for only 127GB. The installer installs but it takes 5 hours to get to 99%. Then it crashes  (nothing can be found in the installer log).

 

Hardware:

MoBo: Asus A8N

CPU: AMD 3200+ SSE3

Disk: PATA Maxtor 250GB (1 partition only)

I had absolutely the same Kernel Panic, but it might be easy to pass it.

 

Boot with -s and then navigate to "System/Library/Extensions",

delete the GeForce.kext with the rm -rf command.

 

rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext

 

 

Voila, now boot up your system, and once in Leopard, install

Natit or NVInject as graphic drivers...

 

Although that wonders me, because your graphics Card is an ATI.

Probably most likely you get that error with a GeForce, like I have.

hey dude... i tried doing this however i still get panic attack.. how would i know if the kext was deleted? also do you know how to edit kext so i can use ps2 mouse and keyboard?...thanks man...

Thanks, I have deleted GeForce.kext and installed one of the Natit versions. Now I can boot without the -x switch, in the native resolution of my monitor. I'm currently trying to enable hardware acceleration.

 

I have also managed to enable the nVidia on-board LAN adapter and I'm posting using Opera for Mac. I'll keep digging on this forum for more info.
