Hello,

I have used netkas' EFI emulation and everything works well except one little problem. When I try to restart or shutdown, my monitor will black out but freezes there.

Are there some kexts that I did not replace that will fix this problem?

(actually, what kexts do/can i replace with vanilla kexts i used ToH to install leopard)

Thanks

Jonathan

Any idea whether the EFI patch will work for Tiger? It should, right?

Also, I keep reading about a System Profiler patch that will make everything read correctly, but I have never been able to find one.

I'm running 10.4.11 and 10.4.8 on an MSI MBox 945F-G case/mobo. I'm no expert yet, but I'm not exactly green, either.

get at digitmemo com

I also have the same problem, white or purple (desktop screen) when reboot.. have to manually power down.

I also don't get the "serial number" that others are getting..

but its great not having to wait for patches too bad its c2d etc only.

I have a few questions about the EFI patch. What is "vanilla" kernel. Also, how is the patch applied?

Its the Darwin bootloader (the one when you press F8) hack/patch..

Since the bootloader is larger than 512 bytes, its placed inside the HFS partition instead of the boot sector

In real macs, the Darwin bootloader (f8) is built in (EFI) so you can use GUID partation table.

Vanilla kernel only runs the on CPU that macs uses. it will panic on ALL others.

Correct me if I am wrong.

netkas, I would like to know as well. Using this site's HowTo, "http://www.digitmemo.com/articles/734/howto-install-efi-patch-and-enable-vanilla-os-x-kernel-in-hackintosh/".

I am very confused on what will happen to my Darwin Bootloader that was created when I installed TIger. Obviously there is some of the bootloader in MBR and the rest I am assuming on the / of the tiger OS. I have Uphuck's Tiger 10.4.9 V1.3 on the first partition. Installed Leopard pre patched BrazilMac's onto the second partition.

If I run this EFI 5.1 patch what will this do to the Tiger bootloader? I think it going to change it and make both Tiger and Leopard in a non boot state.

I have never been successful with the fdisk/startupfiletool and unsure if this patch is going to just make a huge mess or not.

I think I will wait for the next hacked Leo install DVD that gives you the option of EFI or not instead of messing around with what I have now that works perfectly!!

Installed ToH DVD and fixed boot loader to make it boot.

put ToH kernel and Vanilla kernel in / so I can have both ready in case it goes wrong

installed EFI 5.1 with boot into single user (-s) and ./startupfiletool /dev/rdiskXsY ./boot_v5

geekbench2 shows nothing (no Mac or no hack)

but i can't boot to osx

it is keep rebooting.

i can boot if i do F8 at the bootloder and do mach_kernel.patched -v (i have backed up my ToH kernel)

i boot with above option and update to leo 10.5.1 but now my intel EP82562G chip (10/100Mbit) lan dont work.

i am planning to use FCS2 and PS CS3 but before i need to fix this issue.

am i supposed to add dsmos.kext and AppleSMBios.kext from pc_efi_v5 file at /users/libarary/Extension?

please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advace for any sugation.

intel P D 950 3.4ghz

nvidia FX 5700LE 256

1 GB RAM

112 GB SATA samsung HDD (Leo 10.5)

300 GB SATA Seagate HDD (XxX 10.4.10 with 8.9.1 kernel)

4 Steps to boot on hacktonsih..

In disk utility, check if partition table is MBR!! if not reformat is needed I think

fdisk -e, update, f # (activate partition), then write and quit.

dd the boot1h file onto the rdisk0s1 (your active partition)

startupdisktool the boot_v5 file onto disk0s1

Should boot

(no need to bless, I think bless is used for GUID...,, which is not accessible to fdisk anyway and uses pdisk I think)
