dkelley
Just ran into OpenOffice 2.0 universal @ MacUpdate. Didn't have time to install it yet. Check it out @ http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9602 cheers... PS. Remember to have X11 installed from the optional installs YAY!!! It works, it's awesome, I'm installing it alongside MS office 2004 and will try to use it as much as possible instead of MS to find out if I can live with it alone. If I have to keep switching back to MSo I'll know this isn't for me, but I really don't see why I can't get away with OO2 native intel. This is seriously faster than the rosetta version by the way... dkelley

dkelley
seems to be gone again, the link displays a ppc download version now. Anybody else finding that? Looks like they took away the native intel version!!!

domino
Thanks for the link. Too bad megaupload is swamped . Anyway, there might be a good reason why OOo removed the link. I think maybe you downloaded the ppc version that they've put in the macintel's place. the link was only valid for a day. EDIT: sorry, missed the download link above. I'd rather you guys get it from there heh heh. but if it dies ,let me know./Edit If anyone wants it and has a way to recieve it (ftp or similar) I've got the macintel version and it smokes microsoft office IMHO. VERY fast, open every single tool in OO (db, spreadsheet, wordpro, presenter, calculators, etc), I had 15 windows open in OO, all different OO apps ,on my slooooow laptop running osx 8f1111a, and it was incredibly responsive! I've zipped it up so it's 114 megs, (unpacked like 400 megs), just unzip and drag into your apps folder and run it. little setup wizard starts and everything. Initial startup of oo2 is slow due to xwindows having to be started, but once running it's great. And by a little slow I mean like 10 seconds. after that new tools (sheet, word, present, db) all open instantly. Can anyone suggest a better file sharing portal? I've got .mac (I pay for it!! it's that kewl), so could put it in a public folder there or something but I'm not 100% sure how to protect my other stuff from prying eyes (pics of my wife, etc) dkelley Edited January 21, 2006 by dkelley

domino
I would much appreciate if you can upload it home how/place. I had to stop the download from megadownload due to the very slow download speed. To keep your files from showing the index on .mac, create a file on your desktop and name it: index.html Then upload the file to your .mac root folder. You may also upload here (300mb max): http://www.uploading.com/ Thanks

cyclonefr
OpenOffice 2.0 mactel build bigupload.com mirror --> http://www.bigupload.com/d=C94B2CA3 Slideshow with PowerPoint files in OpenOffice is definitly SLOW (the animations are at least), even with QI/CE. It seems it isn't that much optimized for now, while it's running smoothly with Keynote 06.
ericb2
Hi, || Slideshow with PowerPoint files in OpenOffice is ... ...difficult, since Microsoft is not very kind with close formats. I guess you already contacted us on mac@porting mailing list, asking us why it did not work ? Some solutions I can propose you : 1) Could you please send me the .ppt ? I could test it and verify. Note : I advice you to *not* activate OpenGL (not verified it works very well) 2) have you tried to save it again on MS Office with other format, like older PPT, or something more recent ? 3) I'm testing m151, and I'll upload it soon for de / fr /en-US. If I have enough time, Japanese will follow too (not sure). FYI, since some times, a lot of fixes are included in source code, and the issue you described is maybe fixed (or will be in next milestones). New with m151 Intel : - sound seems now to work using Sun JMF cross-platform( be careful...still a bit crashy ) - crystal icons I'll complete others changes on my blog "ericb's place" -- ericb
cyclonefr
if u r french i can speak french anyway i can send u my ppt file but it's a 3mb file. it's slow even activationg the opengl and the animation are not correct at all btw sthg u should change is when u roll with the mouse it doesnt go to the next slide just go up and down into the slide...which is definitly unusefull

This build hangs very often, it's good to try but is useless to work.
