Patched AppleSMBIOS.kext, dsmos.kext, how *exactly* does pc_efi work, ... ?

I think it's time for someone to start demystifying these now, or is it not? :stretcher:

I mean, all of us have been using patched kexts and DVDs blindly, without knowing anything about them.

I sure i'm not the only who'd really love to know how you guys did it, or at least, giving enough technical details about those hacked kexts... How, how, and how?

Please, i don't mean to be rude! Just take it all the way around, me (and others) just trying to understand what was happening since osx86 has started.

Please if any of the gurus could just direct us to the right path to which we will begin to understand the whole osx86 scene, technically.

If anyone's in, please give a feedback, say whatever you see good.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I will bump that too :-)

Especially I want to know what dsmos.kext does exactly. I'm wondering if it's still needed if you choose PC_EFI with vanilla kernel and kexts, or nearly the whole original install DVD...

Thanks in advance to the one who will enlighten us :-)

I know what it is but I'm not able to explain it ;-)

The main thing is that you won't need patched kernel anymore, because EFI will inject the values into the darwin bootloader. I might be wrong as I've just discovered this.

Your PC is now recognised as a real mac, not as an apple developper platform.

You don't need patched updates anymore and can use the one directly provided by Apple.

That's some kind of revolution !!

I'm looking for PC_EFI V5.1 on the forum but hasn't found it yet... does anyone have an url where i can download it ?

@Dense: Yes i know, but how is that achieved, technically. What data (tables) are being emulated? How did they know about them, and how did they implement it?

@bluefade: I guess! Netkas, the creator of efi, says that it do support multiboot. I also works for me!

pc_efi is just a replacement boot loader (its the stage 2 bootloader). It provides emulated efi data to the kernel.
