I found a solution to the card reader.... a $6 USB card reader that reads SDHC, miniSDHC, microSDHC, MS, MS Pro Duo, M2... all with no adapters! ;)

AFAIK it is pretty stable... the only trouble I have with it are random small bugs and some applications being unnaturally slow, like Excel 2008 (anyone get this too?).

Hmm... speaking of bugs, does anyone else seem to have a little bit of trouble with memory management? my computer is using quite a lot of RAM (even more than Vista) running just Firefox and iTunes and Adium... (1164 MB used... even more active)

seems that when I quit some applications they don't completely remove it from RAM...

AFAIK ? What's this ?

No problem, with After Effects & Premiere & Word & Safari & 4 windows in Finder open, only 1,1 Go / 2 Go are busy !

Sometimes Afer effects & Premiere bug, but think it's normal in demo versions..

With Vista Premiere and the system takes 1,2...

I search a benchmark (not xbench, a big big bench) to test mac os stablility.

Oh ! After effects & Premiere told me that my system doesn't support OpenGL (i've the latest nvinject and 10.5.2 Framework - Thanks Antaholics for the bug in grid view), why ?

Just another bug : the Kernel Panic at shutdown, because of HDA kext...

When i install speedstep, i've change the mach_kernel, so am i always in vanilla kernel ?

I don't think so, but no see any difference (except speedstep !), it's just a question...

That's all.

@pinciusss,

congratulations! :D

AFAIK = As far as I know

with iTunes, Firefox, and Adium open, I use 1.1GB... but Vista Premiereruns a bunch of firefox windows/tabs, msn, AV, firewall... etc running, only 800~900 MB... :(

which graphics card do you use? Premiere CS3 works fine for me with OpenGL... my AppleHDA stopped KP after I updated BIOS... or at least so far it has... but shutdown still doesn't work. There's a new Shutdown kernel from netkas, but SpeedStep doesn't work with it.

If you install a modified kernel (speedstep), you are no longer using the default apple kernel (vanilla), so you're no longer using vanilla :(

vanilla is strictly apple software... anything modified is not "vanilla" anymore. most systems running OS X (that I am aware of) are not 100% vanilla, but mostly, with modified kernel and kexts. As for whether SpeedStep kernel will work without EFI, I don't know. I like PC_EFI :(

It is just not the same thing :(

I mean... with all the talented people around on this forum it's just strange that no one found a solution.. that I know of

My audio now works though my speakers and my headphone jack with it turning off the speaker when I plug in my headphones, one thing that doesn't work now that did before I used the fix in ants sig is a usb external soundcard, I've ordered a dell wireless card from ebay for 8 bucks.. I can't wait to have the internet.. my battery meter seems to work most of the time but I'm going to try to get speedstep working soon.

mine is about 350mb after boot... with dashboard (overcrowded) and firefox open its about 800MB... and with adium and iTunes, after having it booted up for a while, it goes up to 1100~1200MB

right now it's sitting at an impressive 1196MB with only adium, iTunes, firefox, temp mon open... :S

For me, Vista runs all of this (WLM, WMP, Firefox, word...) at about 800~900 MB...

Also, I noticed that with iStat Pro, which shows page file... the page file is normally at 0/64MB... and when I launch VMware it goes up to xxx/256MB or xxx/512MB... and then when I quit VMware it just stays in page file... although memory usage drops to ~800MB

Judging from this, and making the assumption that there isn't any bugs in my system, Windows manages memory slightly more efficiently when multitasking and running/quitting large programs.

Objections?

well i dont have the memory problem.............. and i have a card reader too it's sonyericsson CCR-60 it came with my phone and it worked fine too. and what software should i use to have duo boot mine is XP and leo thanks!

PS: My cpu gets very hot every time i uses leo it gose up tp 70+ degree is it usually to you all thanks!

speedstep should drop cpu temperature... because you reduce power used by cpu

well i cant get the speedstep to work on my leo i think i'll try to install another verson of leo and try again........ by the way i'm using kayway right now which ver are you using and what are you using to have booting for xp and leo? Thanks^^

I updated to 10.5.2 and then the problems came, no mute, no battery meter. I was only using about 250mb of ram after boot though, but my cpu seemed to be working harder than it had in 10.5.1 (not positive about that) what is the actual point of 10.5.2 if it just seems to be causing issues?

Now it doesn't even seem to boot, no kernel panic.. it just sits there after mounting my NTFS drives..

What did you use for writting NTFS ? NTFS 3G or Paragon ?

NTFS 3G seems forget some files when a floders contains many (like pictures folder), but Paragon is "bizarre", boot takes a long time, sometimes it don't boot anymore, blue screen...

I'm using Kalyway 10.5.1 (Do i need update ? Don't know, so don't update !) and speedstep works great !

After the update, you have to reinstall your sound, battery, etc... otherwise obviously it wont work

if you had speedstep working in 10.5.1 then your cpu would work harder with 10.5.2 without speedstep

screenshot/picture for boot hang?

I am using a very weird combination of BrazilMac and vanilla kexts. When I first installed BrazilMac it would hang on boot... so I copied the entire extensions folder from a real Apple iMac running 10.5.0, and added 10.5.1 kexts, and driver kexts, and it worked. Now I used Apple combo update for 10.5.2, and replaced with SpeedStep kernel, iATKOS APIC/ACPI, and driver kexts.

I am using Vista boot loader to boot XP, Leopard, and Vista using EasyBCD, but you can do it with XP and chain0 (look up how to use it in xp bootloader)

I use NTFS 3G... which has a really slow shutdown with the SIGTERM error. I've never heard of Paragon, but I believe most people use ntfs-3g.

sorry if this is obvious, im very new to this

Trying to install to F3Sc with Kalyway. Have XP already onboard and have repartitioned to make 60Gb free. Kalyway disk boots and I have tried various params, including "rd=disk0s1 graphics=1440x900x32@60" but whatever I do, it runs through lots of kernel load messages and then switches to graphics mode (sometimes I see the Apple logo - so near, yet so far) and then it reboots.

Any help or suggestions very appreciated

Had the same issue before, you need to change your kernel.

after 10.5.2 kaly combo kernel does not get changed, he has released another pkg with 2 kernels vanilla and modded, you need to install that and the slow startup will be fixed (i used vanilla) after that is done and working you can try the speedstep stuff.

have you changed to a modified bios? if not try booting with the following options

cpus=1 -x -v

that shud get u into the installer

hope that helps

thanks for the reply! I can't seem to find this package on the buccaneer's bayou though, what is it called? thanks!

Update: think I found it.

PS: My cpu gets very hot every time i uses leo it gose up tp 70+ degree is it usually to you all thanks!

My Core 2 T5250 also goes up to 70 (Celsius), in vista 40...(Too at startup)

I've tried some ACPIplatform & AppleAPIC kext, but no change... :P

SpeedStep is installed & works great...it's strange, & i don't know what was the temperature before, so don't know if it change something...

I use Temperature monitor, i know that under windows speedfan gives the good temperature, but not some others software (over 50 degrees)...

Others ? Which software are you using & what is your cpu temperature ?

Did you know what is the dangerous temperature for it ?

No news for card reader ??

@wiwi,

what speed was your CPU running via speedstep when you get 70 degrees celcius? what is th original speed?

on max speed of my 2.0ghz T7300, running at 100%, I only hit about 68-69 deg C. Right now I just set it to 800mhz (not doing anything intensive, might as well save power and lower temperature, and it's going at 46 deg C.

no news for card reader. i THINK it's a PCMIA card reader... so maybe you can start looking there. good luck! :P

and this doesn't happen in Vista? how is CPU usage? low? If that's the case then I honestly don't know why... :S

maybe try deleting AppleIntelCPUPowermanagment... i think it made some older CPUs heat up... you'll have to dig around and make sure you're deleting the right thing though, as i'm not entirely clear which file it is... I believe it is a kext file (back it up!)

No never happans in Vista...

CPU usage is very low (0-1% !)

I will try to delete some thermal kexts, one by one... I use an Acpiplatform from 10.4.6, no Jas...

But now i have a KP at stratup, and i have to replace AppleAPIC with the backup one, but it is backup on a NTFS drive (which is not mounted in single user mode)... Bouh...

I will try with MacDrive, and repair permisions after...

Antaholics, for you Premiere is more reactive on vista or on os X ?
