easycome24
than how did you get efi to work it said that the efi only supports vista&xp 64bit are you on 64bit or you installed them on vm? antaholics
really? where did it say that? I am using 32 bit for both vista and xp pc_efi is different from efi... pc_efi is for hacks to boot properly with vanilla kexts by emulating a real efi during bootup. Are there specific instructions to update or can i follow these? http://netkas.org/?p=50 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/21/#findComment-654922 Share on other sites
jjduro
So I still have no idea why speedstep isnt working. and battery life is still at 1:20...10.5.2 update always gives me kernel panics..Are there specific instructions to update or can i follow these?http://netkas.org/?p=50 There are two packages by kalyway, on the bucaneer's cove - harrrr, matie! - one with the update, and the other with the kernels - vanilla and patched... I've used them. And they work flawlesselyok i installed os x without vanilla kernel, i installed the fix again, and even did jjduro's suggestion to remove extension caches and extensions.mkext. I rebooted with -f -v like he said, and I still get the same results. The battery meter shows accurate time, but speedstep doesnt work, and i never got speedstep gui.Sorry python1564... The battery fix was only for showing the accurate time on the battery metter. Not for Speedstep on 10.5.2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/21/#findComment-654945 Share on other sites
python1564
I followed netkas instructions and once again kernel panic. I have to reinstall os x, but should i use vanilla kernel or no? mkayz
I followed netkas instructions and once again kernel panic. I have to reinstall os x, but should i use vanilla kernel or no?Which one works with kalyways 10.5.2 update? for me i installed any 10.5.1 (altho iATOKOS imho is better) then i installed 10.5.2 via kalyway combo update, i tried netkas method and it also messed up my system and had to reinstall so try kalyway update, as for kernels, i tried both modded and non modded and both work find, its easy to change the kernel once u have the system up. so where did you get the efi i thing i got the wrong ones can you post it out thanks! if you installed leopard using kalyway 10.5.1 then you are using pc_efi v8, if you used iATKOS then you had a choice during install. What is your soundcard codec? And what about replacing your ABG wifi card for a Broadcom 1390? I believe it has the same socket. antaholics
For those who get KP on netkas's guide, follow this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87078 it's the same thing, but much more clear. I got KP the first time too but after following this guide I got it working perfectly. For battery fix, can you guys try my method (if you haven't tried it yet)? Download the battery meter from the SpeedStep package, and replace your AppleACPIPlatform.kext with the iATKOS one. that worked for me. For the SpeedStep package, if yours is still not working, did you: 1. move/remove the old kernel 2. add the speedstep kernel 3. use a new (leopard, iatkos) ACPI/APIC kext 4. replace SMBIOS from the package 5. chmod and chown everything (including kernel and bundle) 6. boot with -v -f (look for errors) 7. launch the speedstep app manually and see what happens if all of that doesn't work, i am not really sure how to help you maybe youll have to post on one of the speedstep threads... good luck! Jermo
Okay, I'm going to try this speedstep thing. What's the deal with Vanilla, speedstep does or it doesn't work with it? I installed iATKOS and I didn't really install any of the options because you said to just put the kexts in after so how do I go about getting vanilla, I need to have the pc_efi kext? I didn't see an option for vanilla in the install like there was on the kalyway disk. And the benefit of vanilla is that you can use the official updates? orr.. Thanks for being patient with my newbie questions, I still don't really understand this kext thing, how drivers work etc. Once I actually install a kext and something works because of it I'll understand it more I think. Aidass
woot woot! speedstep works perfectly, no errors! and maybe anyone could upload AppleAPCIPlatform.kext from iatkos or from somwhere, because I ca't get battery meter Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/21/#findComment-655598 Share on other sites
antaholics
@Jermo, kexts (aka extensions) are sort of like windows drivers. AFAIK, pc_efi is not a kext, but something used to boot into OS X. Vanilla means the original kexts/kernel from apple, which will only boot with pc_efi. otherwise, a modified kernel is used, which bypasses efi detection. however, SpeedStep requires a modified "speedstep kernel", so the vanilla one will NOT work. both will work with apple updates, but you might have to replace some kexts and the kernel... either way, using pc_efi will result in the fewest modifications from apple files. I hope this makes sense, and is correct iATKOS r2 ACPI: iATKOS_ACPI.zip replace and pray I hope you guys are using Leopard APIC... or it will crash your system. mkayz
Just for reference, there are actually 3 different ACPIplatform.kext on iATKOS, that one you want is the one that ins including in the "intel base' pkg (if you are extracting) if you are installing from DVD then leave stock ACPI and ACPI fix unticked. a way to find out if you got the right one is to browse the kext go into plugins and see if there is a powersource.kext . antaholics
as stated before, I just used the 10.5.2 SpeedStep package from http://minsong79.tistory.com/10 with 10.5.2 already running... any more than that, I am afraid that I do not know much about it to help maybe you can try posting on some relavent threads asking for help! 3495 ABG is still being worked on! jjduro
Hi,I just updated my Asus F3JC to 10.5.2 - all vanilla - installed the battery bundle and powermanagement and it works fine. Here is the snapshot and the files I used, and a How to. @jjduroHow do i find out what audio codec i have?Is there any way to make inhell 3945 abg work? You can check it on the internet , just type your model, followed by "audio codec" or "specs". Or, in Windows, go to My Computer/Properties/Device Manager Or, using a Linux live cd, type in Terminal: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 > /tmp/[codec dump filename].txt You'll find a report, called dump, it on the tmp directory that'll give your audio card's model. About ABG3945, it seems that the driver, developed by Jalavoui et al, only works on Tiger. And only supports ABG2200. You can find some alpha drivers on google code. But they're only for testing purposes. The best thing to do, is to buy on Ebay a miniPCI-E wifi card based on an Atheros chip, or a Broadcom 1390 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/21/#findComment-656340 Share on other sites
