I just dropped the two AHCI files into my extensions folder, fixed permissions, rebooted, turned on AHCI in my BIOS, and voilà, Mac OS X support S-ATA natively on my Intel D945GTP Board. Hooray!

Wow - I just did this and it works like a champ. Everything is a bit crisper feeling. It may only be a 5% increase, but it feels like more :D

I have looked if it is loaded, and I have discovered that it was not!

after kextstat no AHCI driver there...

kextload did the work, but I can't tell if there is any diference.

maybe someone who has it loaded in boot time can do xbench to ensure it has some effect.

I just installed the AHCI kexts, just dropped the 2 kexts in extensions folder, fixed permissions and rebooted. Results:

- XBench score up by almost 2 points from 80.77 to 82.58 (solely due to faster disk access)

- SATA WD Raptor 1500 got a significant speed boost: Disk Speed Bench X shows transfer rate boost from 84MBytes/sec to 92/MBytes/sec

- My older Maxtor SATA drive is just a tiny bit faster with AHCI enabled, so the effect seems to depend on the drive firmware quite a lot.

My conclusion: If using Intel D945GNT mainboard and SATA drives, you propably should install the AHCI kexts.

So how do I do this? I'm lost....:S

I want to run my sata hard drive natively, and I have nforce4 chipset. I cannot get the right extensions I want, and I don't know how to create my own (Seeing as you have to have osx working to do it)

A little help would go a long way.

Thanks

Does anybody know how to get the AHCI drive to work for a ICH6R controller in RAID mode with a non-RAID disk.

Basically, I have a RAID 0 for my drives in windows, but i have a 3rd SATA disk on teh controller that is NOT in RAID. This standalone disk is therefore on an AHCI port, but the controller is set to RAID.

Is it a simple matter of changing device IDs in the kext?

<Answered my own question>

I modified the info.plist in the kext and changed the IDs of the ICH7-M to that of my ICH6R and now it works great.

Hi ive got a 945p chipset motherboard and when i enable ahci on the sata i cant boot into 10.4.4 get the dreaded still waiting for root device... when i boot with -v i see an error SATA WARNING: checksum cookie not valid does anyone know what this means?
