DylanG
Okay, I got the Leopard GM image downloaded onto my computer. So, I want to install it. No problem right? Phew, yea right. There are some problems here: 1. No DVD Burner 2. No external hard drive Okay, so we have another good option. Restore the already downloaded install image onto a seperate partition and boot from that partition... okay, here we encounter another problem. 1. 2nd partition not installed prior to install image download Wow. Now I really suck. If I want to make a seperate partition in a fool-proof way, I boot from the Apple Install DVD that came with my Mac and create the partition using it's disk utility. Oh wait.. It will kill my whole hard drive!! Yup, all my files will be gone, including the piece de resistancé, the Leopard DMG Image. So If I partition I'll have to download the stupid image all over again. Okay, there are some ways to make a partition without erasing any files. The most obvious way is Boot Camp. I have it. So I used it and first it said "Filesystem verify or repair failed." Yay, just great. So I go back into my Apple Disk I got with my Mac, and perform a disk repair. Boot Camp does not get that error again. This time it gets an even more convient one. "Partition failed. Some files could not be moved." The disk is fully repaired. I'm not so worried about correcting Disk Permissions, but I did it anyway. This is the error I get with Disk Permissions when I do it from the Apple disk I got with my mac: "Repair permissions failed because there are no available packets." Uhhh whatever! Okay, there's ANOTHER way to make a partition without erasing any files... using Disk Utility. I partition the disk using Disk Utility and it fails (again cuz i'm an ERROR MAGNET!!!!) saying this: "Internal Error. Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management Tool. Quit Disk Utility and try again.". OH MY GOD! WHAT DOES IT TAKE WITH THIS MACHINE!!? I'm going out of my mind. So my question is, does anyone have any information on how to fix any one of these problems? Does anyone know of another way to get the Leopard Image to install, by booting from the image with the resources I have or partitioning it another way?? Is there anyway I can install this new build of Leopard with my given errors and resources? Any help would be nice.. I'm so totally screwed right now. Haha thanks, Dylan. OHsleeper
Do you have an iPod big enough to fit the image? Are you on Intel? If both of those answers are yes. You can do it quite easily. Let me know. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68446-the-ultimate-leopard-problem/#findComment-486697 Share on other sites

Dan Druff
Three simple steps! 1. Simply backup your image in rar format of more or less 1,75 Gb pieces on your hard drive (to fit on a 2GB iPod, check available space on it before archiving). 2. Make copies of your backup on another machine with a DVD burner, even at a friend's home using your ipods. Test your image for errors before you screw something. 3. Burn from there, make sure to convert to an iso before archiving, easier to burn if you got a Wintel machine as burn station. Enjoy! diamondsw
If you are VERY careful, diskutil on the command line will allow live repartitioning of the startup disk. Just be VERY careful not to fat finger something, or you're hosed. Look at the examples in particular. Now that I've scared you enough - go ahead. It will work, and no extra disk needed. hazkid
http://www.macgeekery.com/tips/cli/nondest...esizing_volumes This tutorial should work for you. I used it. BUT READ THROUGH THE WHOLE THING FIRST!!!!!! (And yes, I did mean to shout). The first steps are incorrect. They tell you this, then proceed to give you the correct instructions. So just read it and then try it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68446-the-ultimate-leopard-problem/#findComment-486875 Share on other sites
The Masked Muchacho
you could use idefrag to move all the data to the start of the drive and ipartition to partition it without destroying anything, im pretty sure they would do the job. demons may have them if you are interested. they may also be among the pirates plunder for those who are not friendly with the demons.
