Apple as early as Tuesday is expected to make a Leopard-related announcement to both customers and members of the media, AppleInsider has learned.

After cutting it close near the tail-end of the software's development cycle, the stars appear to have finally fallen into alignment after a Gold Master candidate build surfaced internally this past weekend.

Obviously, an impending announcement would concern availability, as much else about Leopard has been out in the open for quite some time. AppleInsider had previously pinned Leopard's launch for 6:00 p.m. on Friday Oct. 26 -- a date and time which several publications, include our friends at ifoAppleStore, now appear to be confirming.

It makes sense, Apple said October, and we are running out of days. The 26th seems logical b/c they would not want to release it on or the day before Halloween. Plus, they have been doing the Friday launch thing recently.

That being said, none of the sites reporting this list a source or say where this rumor came from.... so I guess we don't know. I hope this rumor turns out to be true- If so, I will be in line, however, I'm not holding my breath.

:D

Thinksecret and AppleInsider have said they've confirmed but I'm really not holding my breath. IT'S CONFIRMED WHEN APPLE SAYS IT IS, maybe they'll say tomorrow. Anyways, logically, it seems right because it's halfway through October already. Since Apple is firm about releasing in October, it will be out on or around the 26th.

I definitely have to say that I am surprised by all of this.

Everything here is so different than what Apple had done with their previous releases.

Perhaps this is all just a way of preventing people from getting their hands on it in advance, however as a developer, I know that I would be amazingly upset if I found out that something significant has changed between the seed that we were given a month ago and the Gold Master that breaks compatibility with my apps.

It has already happened a few times due to changes to Quicktime and it's related libraries.

At least it is not just my stuff that appears broken, though. I have been able to duplicate the crashes that happen in my Apps with most of Apple's iLife apps including iTunes.

I am certain that it is something that will be fixed prior to release, however this whole hitting a moving target thing is really starting to upset me. It would be different if many of the multimedia libraries didn't change on such a regular basis between seeds.
