Davidoffke
Hello there, first of all, i'm pretty new here. I'll try to make a long story short, but this is what happened. Recently bought an intel Macbook Pro as my acer laptop was getting older and the HD crashed... After having played with it and having used frontrow with the Ipod Touch remote control capabilities (remote buddy) I just fell in love with it. Currently my HTPC is this IL90-MV motherboard, with a single core 1.5Ghz and 2 times 512Mb ram in it.. I run Windows Media Centre '05 at the moment but would really LOVE to change it to Mac OS X. As I see this board is being considered as a good choice to start with it's actually nice to know because it's what I'm stuck with... Y2work, have you allready been able to try something, or will I actually be the first... any tips or tricks for a newbie.. thanks... hope to have an enjoyable transformation ;-) i'll get such board tomorrow and after that i plan to try doing it :-)Did you try ? I have IL-90MV, and working as 10.5.8, as I type this message. I finally got nVidia Quadro NV290 fully working, which is the same chipset as GeForce 8500, and put it on PCI express x1 lane. (There aren't many x1 video card, I can tell you that.) The card has a breakout dual DVI cable, and DVI does work. Onboard video worked only for VGA, and I have not been able to figure out the DVI/HDMI to work. However, onboard graphics VGA did CI/QE, so it was not too bad. My system is retail vanilla 10.5, with Chameleon 2.0 RC2 r640. What works: System: retail 10.5, I just applied 10.5.8 combo update without any problem. Video: nVidia Quadro NV290 PCI-e 1x. with DSDT patch CI/QE on with dual DVI Sound: Not working - I use USB audio. Ethernet: OoB working. I'm pretty confident that my setup will be fine with Snow Leo. This machine, however -- I'm not planning to use this as a Hack Box. I used it as temporary Mac for my family while my real iMac went to a Genius bar for dead disk replacement. If you are interested in DSDT patching, I can give you my DSDT.dsl for your reference. It includes the onboard video working with CI/QE but no DVI, so it may be no use if you want HDMI/DVI onboard. - TG Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65398-abit-il-90mv-mboard-945gt-with-hdmi-and-optical-out-the-ultimate-hackingtosh/#findComment-1430092 Share on other sites

TennisGeek
TennisGeek, Is there a basic guide that you followed to get OSX and Chameleon loaded onto this motherboard? I don't have enough expertise to do such a thing, as I don't understand the KEXTs much. However, I can certainly give you my DSDT. I have been trying to figure out a few things with il-90mv, and so far, I have not been able to do much other than NVidia NV290 working. shaughn, you should use my DSDT. It is fixed up for GFX0 (GMA95) and GFX1 (NV290), and firewire port should work as well. I have a MacBook which uses the same GMA950, and Core2Duo T7200. I'm looking at the acpi tables of MacBook, and fixing up the il-90mv's totally busted DSDT/SSDT tables. shaughn
Your DSDT works great with my machine, the onboard GMA 950 and firewire ports work. Also, "About this Mac" works now too. TennisGeek
Glad to hear that the DSDT is working. Sleep -- No. It does sleep, and not coming back! I'll see what I can do. Restart works. About this Mac is working because the DSDT has a sbus device, I think. I've been working on the sound chip. Your DSDT works great with my machine, the onboard GMA 950 and firewire ports work. TennisGeek
I get the sound going now, at least for 10.5.8. This made me really happy, though I don't have to use the on-board sound. Using AppleHDAPatcher application and the realtek ALC882 definition. Took me a long time to realize that the sound chip is not Sigmatel. It's ALC882m. Doh! I kept piling in the sigmatel stuff into DSDT as well, and scratching my head. I don't know putting in ALC882 into DSDT makes difference or not. Only thing not working is sleep, which the wake up is not working, and HDMI on-board video. However, as I have a nVidia's NV290 working with DVI, this is not a big deal to me. Note that, once you use nVidia, sleep is going to work better. -- TG Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65398-abit-il-90mv-mboard-945gt-with-hdmi-and-optical-out-the-ultimate-hackingtosh/#findComment-1443476 Share on other sites

TennisGeek
What about Snow leopard installs ?I have Two of these boards, intended to be used as Hacks I've used "My Hack" to install on a new HD, but time machine causes panic, and the video is not quite right .. Have you tried SL ? I was hoping to work out all the kinks before going to SL. I don't have any time to do anything for a week+. Once I get a good DSDT for the machine, moving to SL should not be difficult. In other word, if you are on Vanilla, and have fakesmc.kext as solo kext, there should be "as good as a real Mac". I was hoping to get to that point. Right now, if I make a move, most likely the sound stops working. I have to struggle with the sleep issue too. I can put SL on it just for show, and nearly certain that SL works O-K. At this point, I'm nearly giving up on this board, because difficulty fixing up the SSDT (c-state does not exist) in order to remove the power management disabler kexts. FYI, this board's SSDT is so bad that, on Linux, it reports it is running at 1.2GHz. p-state table is completely busted. It looks like someone just copy&pasted from P4 motherboard for different CPU. I have T7200. (2GHz Core 2 Duo, Merom) I'm also wanting to see DVI works with the GMA950. I'm doing all kinds of "bad things" in DSDT, but it's NO GO. The other thing that's bugging me is the power button. My quad machine/gigabyte MB works great with power button. Goes to sleep with power button, and comes out from sleep with power button. I've been scratching my head with IL-90MV as the power button does not work like that, even though the IO service place clearly shows that it recognizes the power button. I suspect that the BIOS is interfering. Also, sleep issue. The machine does sleep. But, it comes back right away. If I leave the machine long enough, it eventually sleeps. If I get to the console, the sleep seems to work just fine. Something (GMA950?) is causing the machine to wake up, and am looking for a way to know what is causing machine to wake. I'm so frustrated with this board. I'm basically working on this board as my "gaining the experience with hacking DSDT", or say, a community service. To be honest, if shaughn didn't hang around, I'd probably moved on long ago. He let me know that Quadro NVS 290 works great on his Hack IL-90MV. -- TG Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65398-abit-il-90mv-mboard-945gt-with-hdmi-and-optical-out-the-ultimate-hackingtosh/#findComment-1447908 Share on other sites
shaughn
My Nvidia NVS 290 arrived this morning and it was still factory sealed, not too shabby for forty dollars. Anyway, I plugged it in and it worked. System profiler recognized it as a Nvidia NVS 290 and I was also able to run two monitor off the new graphics card, which is just fantastic. iiebill
I got this working in 10.6. Time machine works, all gma950 res, sound (882) and about this mac tell me its a macbook air. This is really a mobile machine-like a laptop because it has the mobile "chipset" so it acts more like a laptop than a desktop. I think the trick was to use these: legacy_kernel-10.3.0.pkg ALC882_matemago GMA 950 27A2 OSX 10.6.2 ( kexts only not the .aml file) I will try to package al these together in one big zip if anyone wants. I spent over a week figuring all this out. I will re-install this again to see if I can simplify the process, and make sure I got it right. I used "my hack" empier efi ( non legacy, newest version out, with everything thats pre-checked, but I think I'd rather use the latest chameleon2rc4. I'm installing MS Office to check for artiacts, but I'll run with ths for a few days to verfy... So far its GREAT. I'd like to software update( manually) to the latest SL but I think I'd stil have to reintall the 10.3.0 Pkg again. It might not be 100% Mac compatiable, but It works for me. I'd like someone else to duplicate what I've don to veify, and If I get a chance, test the hdmi . I found everyting I used online, I don't cook anything myself. I hope this helps! I got this working in 10.6..... OK. "Word" has goofy mouse problems and it won't wake up from sleep. I'll work o that later...... AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer 1.4.20.28 maybe i'll try some other ones.. I'd like to software update( manually) to the latest SL but I think I'd stil have to reintall the 10.3.0 Pkg again. It might not be 100% Mac compatiable, but It works for me. Let us know how it goes. "Word" has goofy mouse problems and it won't wake up from sleep. The machine not coming back from sleep with mouse or keyboard is probably because ACPI (or say DSDT) does not broadcast event when USB is used during sleep. I have put in the changes to my DSDT, and waking up from mouse/keyboard works. In other word, after patching up my DSDT, going into sleep and coming out from sleep both work. If you don't mind, could you give me you SSDT along with the model name (like T7200 or T2400) of your CPU? I'd like to know how SSDT is broken for other kinds of CPUS. I have T7200, and it's a disaster. -- TG Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65398-abit-il-90mv-mboard-945gt-with-hdmi-and-optical-out-the-ultimate-hackingtosh/#findComment-1448565 Share on other sites
