bluedragon1971
Lets start with the obvious (which doesn't seem to be so obvious, since so many people don't think about doing it). Did you go into Disk Utility and partition and format the drive? If you don't, the drive won't be seen by the installer. Espionage724
Is the drive you want to install Mac to partitioned with anything? or is it just a empty space? It needs to be partitioned with a file system (any one like NTFS or something) so it can be seen. onizuka
Some motherboards have an "AHCI drive mode", you should try that if you find it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65362-os-x-not-detecting-hard-drive/#findComment-463565 Share on other sites

DaniBolson
Hello, guys. I need to install OSX on a Compaq Presario 3217LA. It has internal SATA HD and DVD that are not recognized by the installers Jas 10.4.8, Uphuck 10.4.9 and iAtkos 10.5.1, all of which worked fine in other machines. The 10.4.9 booted via USB DVD drive and began the installation, but the Disk Utility did not see the SATA hard drive. I tried with a FAT32 Active partition, with a NTFS partition, with no partition... None. I think I need to patch something (via pen drive) at this instance for the SATA to be recognized, or perhaps install the system on external HD with other machine and then clone it to the internal, but don´t know which SATA driver to use. It´s a Presario 3217LA: AMD Sempron Mobile 3400+ IDE/ATAPI nForce 430/410 (IDE Device 10de-0265 / 0266 in XP) HDD Fujitsu MHV 2080 BH PL DVD Mat{censored}a UJ 850 S Any idea, please...? Thank you in advance. Daniel. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65362-os-x-not-detecting-hard-drive/#findComment-617801 Share on other sites
