I'm considering buying an entry level macbook. however, i've read a lot of posts on the net from people complaining that the screen flickers when you turn the brightness down. you can see this on youtube also.

does anyone know how common is this? are many sites exaggerating this problem, or is it actually very common, as it would appear from what I've read. what percentage of macbooks have this problem?

i've also read that apple's hardware quality is suspected to be slipping drastically in recent years?

anyone who has a macbook can you comment on this?

Wow.. and I thought I was the only one with this problem. I'm just glad I'm not the only one. :/

While we're on the problematic MacBook issue, do any of you guys have a problem where the DVD drive will attempt to eject a disk at random times, even when there's no disk in there?

Yeah, Apple's hardware quality has definitely been going downhill... anyone wanna trade a MacBook for a 12" Powerbook? ;)

I have the same on my Core Duo 2GHz Macbook. (First gen, bought in june 2006)

Though it has been since several months since I noticed it. Too bad it is out of warranty, because my tab key is also broken.

Last year it has been away for 3 repairs. (The shutdown problem, once a sound problem (speaker broken), once a bad memory)

My dad has bought a macbook pro in february 2006 and never had a problem. I am kind of fed up and thinking of buying a new macbook pro.

probably the wrong place to start this argument...i know nothing is perfect, but i've had several PC laptops, and never anything like this. it is completely unacceptable, apple should recall them. that is a violation of consumer rights. if i owned one of these i would return it and demand a refund or working replacement.
