Hi,

Specs are below in my signature. I am currently using the Intel Pro 100 VE driver for my Intel 82540EM Gigabit LAN even though the Pro 100 VE driver is meant for the 8255x series. The internet is working fine, but randomly sometimes, the internet just stops working. No connection. The LAN sort of just "goes to sleep". To give it a wake up call, I have to boot Windows.

And for all of you who may be wondering, I've disabled all sleep features in OS X.

Why is it happening?

Thanx

Care to be a little more specific? What is, in your opinion, falling to sleep? You machines NIC or the router? Can another computer access the internet while the first one can't? How do you connect to the internet? Via a router or does your computer establish the connection?

Its like this: Randomly, the internet just stops working. The NIC is sending packets but its not receiving. Its like the NIC goes to sleep (as in it stops working). Once I boot into Windows, the internet works and if I boot back into OS X after booting Windows, then the internet magically comes back to life again. I connect to the net through a router which is connected to a cable modem. OS X is detecting the routers IP address fine, 192.168.100.1

This is a long shot, but it may be a bad MTU setting. Try pinging www.google.com from your terminal and press ctrl-c after a few seconds. Pay attention to the last line: if it says anything more than 0% package loss then you could have an MTU setting issue. Here's a tutorial on how to fix this: http://www.iinet.net.au/support/dialup/tut...dialup_mtu.html

What you basically need to do is to lower the MTU in small steps (multiples of 8 are recommended) and pinging in between settings until you get 0% package loss. Usually broadband connections use an MTU of 1492.

Cheers,
