I switched from the free AV solutions to NOD32 about 2 years ago and its what I use when building PCs and on other peoples machines when Norton or McAfee wear out. It kills viruses before they hit your computer and doesn't effect system resources. On higher end systems I use AOL's Free AntiVirus because it is based off Kapersky. Kapersky has a higher detection rate, but also eats at some resources if on less than 1GB memory. I have not tested AOL AntiVirus on Vista.
