phee Nom Tracks
Ive been makin music for a pretty long time now and i seem to be unsatisfied with the sound quality of string synthesizers that ive used. The best strings ive ever heard are the ones in logic express. But they still sound un realistic. So i want to know what string synths you use or what sample libraries i might be interested in. post anything but be sure to specify whether its a HArd synth, Sof synth, plug in, and or a sample library Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56797-best-mac-string-synthesizers/ Share on other sites

rhalls
But Atmosphere is not UB, so on intel macs it doesnt work. And it will take until the end of the year (if ever) it will be realeased as UB. solaar
The Garritan libraries are among the best. They're based on NI Kontakt format but usually come with their own player, so you don't really need Kontakt. AFAIK they're all UB now. Check out the demo: http://www.garritan.com/mp3/Beethoven-5thSymphony.mp3 The Danny Jaeger and Peter Siedlacek strings are also excellent. Anyway, nearly all of them offer their collections in different sampler formats which makes them more or less platform independent. Personally I always shoot for NI Kontakt format. I reckon Kontakt is the best UB sampler (VSTi and AU) around so far. Lots of people also swear by Sample tank but it's all about personal preference. Your best bet is to check out www.kvraudio.com The most complete source for plugins. DrSupachicken
Heya, I have also used Garritan. I found it ok! You'll love the sound if your comming from synths though I personally like and use the IK Multimedia Philharmonic Orchestra samples I think that they are great!!! The best is VSL but about 50K for the OPUS edition, in Australia anyways. You might also like to look at the the EWQL libraries. Goodluck. Lots of sounds with expression and alternative timbre elements.. just try using the mod wheel on them Works well for me.. also Garriton Perosnal Orchestra. Tiranofice
for strings, i use my stage piano, it is a ROLAND RD 700 SX, expecially the string quartet preset rocks, it is hyper realistic. My girlfriend plays violin, and i was playing on my piano, she came in the room and asked where i learned to play like that and if i would stay away from her violin. She could hardly believe it was my piano. i would sample them for you, but i don't have a working audio interface for mac os x (yet) really, they are the best Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56797-best-mac-string-synthesizers/#findComment-407310 Share on other sites
phee Nom Tracks
man. if you are willing to sample them for me that would be great. i can help you find an audio interface if you like. ALL the m-audio ones work and theres even a 50 dollar soundblaster interfac on new egg that ROCKS for the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829102174. it works perfectly in osx. pm me back if you do get one. i would love to help you out if you got any questions. -phee Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56797-best-mac-string-synthesizers/#findComment-408093 Share on other sites

the-negative
Tension from Ableton 7 is shaping up to be quite a nice string simulator. Too bad I haven't heard how it sounds though. One thing I must say- acoustic simulation, not sampling, works much better for string based stuff. Sampling is quite eeriy at times, even the Ivory (32GB) sampled piano doesn't really make you jump. UZi706
Can I just point something out about your issue with Synths sounding unreal: Synth = Synthetic Synthetic = unreal My suggestion: Get a real string instrument Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56797-best-mac-string-synthesizers/#findComment-472672 Share on other sites
