Hello all.

I am planning of getting a Asus G2S Notebook.

I am very sad to admit that I have no choice due to the costs of Macs.

The thing is, I MUST have Mac OS on it, elswhise, I might die of a terrible depression.

No, actually I also need it for professional matters.

Now, something very interresting in the Asus Laptops, is that they have nearly the SAME hardware as a MacBook Pro.

I might add that I will be using the Laptop for advanced video, graphical editing, so something very powerfull is needed.

Here is a small table to comapare them:

As you see, they are extremly similar.

Now, my question is, how well would MacOS 10.5 or 10.4 run on it?

Would I still have a fast and powerfull Mac on it or would it be slow with bugs, etc...?

Has any other Laptop ever run with Mac OS very smoothly?

Is it too risky too buy? If so, how could I test it out?

If I buy a version of Leopard, would it stay legal installed on another machine? (if not, apple are really :censored2: )!

Please inlighten me as to my choice maybe even give me other possibilities.

Cheers,

the root's rwt

Are you in the US or another country? I know that Macs tend to cost more elsewhere. I'm not sure which store you're price comparing to, but I just configured an Asus G2S to be the same specs as a 17" Mac Book Pro, and it's only $155 less ($2644 vs $2799). If you must run OS X, I'd say get the real thing. The base price of the G2S was $2059, but upgrading the CPU to 2.4GHz was an extra $585

lol, i'm from switzerland and its about 900$ more!

3,949 sfr is about $3252!!!

And is there a big diefference between 2.2GHz and 2.4GHz ?

By the way, for other interested people, the Asus F3SV and G1S are very similar to the MacBook Pros too.

Here in Portugal, Asus are cheaper. And a good Apple is very, very, expensive. Low End iBooks (1400 euro) are more expensive than, say... Asus F3Jc (1080 euro). Apple's CPU's are less powerfull, and you get less memory.

So, I have to say that OSX86 is a interesting choice with an Asus.

About the post about an ideal Asus that started this topic, I have to say that you could have some problems with sound, especially if it uses a ALC660/861, and wireless if it uses Intel 3946ABG (no functionnel driver). If those things work it is a great bet.

Hi i am also from portugal, my ibook disk controller died, and i was low on money so i bought a packard bell bu45, for 699eur , i guess it haves asus mainboard, F13TV or something , as detected by asus-laptop acpi linux kernel module, it's a 12.1" , with 1.9 kg laptop with webcam, fingerprinter reader, T5500, 120 gb seagate momentus, ALC660 (not working), and ipw3945 not working going to exchange for a broadcom card... the sound is a pain in the ass, but graphics are perfect at 1280x800 ;)

I have an ASUS G1S ... exact same hardware, just only 15.4" screen size and i have not had ANY SUCCESS AT ALL installing Mac OSX... uphuck, Jas, Myz, 10.4.X... none of them work... The closest i have got so far is installing the latest uphuck version (10.4.9 1.4i r3) in VMWare... that's it... i guess we will have to wait til 10.4.10 which is the one that the new macbooks pro use.
