andyash
A simple question about 8f1111a update. I have 8f1111 installed and only had to patch the oah files as my cpu is sse3 with nx, so far running fine. To install the 8f1111a update do I need to patch the it first? I would read the maxxuss instructions but can't access his site. If you have SSE3, PAE, NX/XD, then you simply have to install the patch for the unpatched kernel. Nothing else needed. when i visit the site, i only get the 8f1099 patches?? anyone else having this problem? I think he is updating the version atm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5593-8f111a-update-available/page/2/#findComment-35546 Share on other sites

WaxTrax!
These patches worked great for me. I have an X2 4400 which supports SSE3 and the other {censored}. I downloaded and installed the PKG, but after that I had to reboot with my original kernel. Then I applied the CPUID fix to the kernel, and all is well now, Toast 7 is installed and running :-) This is great stuff!! Now I just need some good drivers for my old ATI 9200 SE card :-) Funny, it hasn't even been a year since I bought it but now it's old, LOL Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5593-8f111a-update-available/page/2/#findComment-35638 Share on other sites

stryder
EDIT: Removed content violating DMCA I installed the 8f1111a(g) update (patch) on my 8f1111 (JaS pif) install, and when I rebooted, it took about 5 minutes of just spinning "wait" logo on the bottom of the grey screen. Then, reboot! On this boot, it took about 5 minutes to boot into the GUI. Ahhh! So... I tried restarting again, and it takes about a minute to boot my machine now. Not sure why... It's now slower to boot my P4 than my G4, whereas before it was much faster! I used the SSE3 Emulation patch, because according to Maxxuss, it doesn't do any harm unless my CPU is not SSE3. Should I re-install 8f1111 and use the SSE3-only patch? Or do I even need to update to 8f1111a? Any thoughts? WaxTrax!
Should I re-install 8f1111 and use the SSE3-only patch? What I usually do is prepare a few different kernels, including a backup copy of my latest working kernel, and then just try them out individually to see which one works the best. Just patch a few different kernels and put them in your root, and when you go to boot, hit F8 and type the name of the kernel you want to try. After you find one that you like, you can either rename it mach_kernel, or do what I did and just edit your boot preferences to point to the name of the kernel you want to boot each time. Yeah, that's fine, however, if for some reason the Maxxuss kernel is using SSE3 emulation, then it has now replaced all the files on my hard drive with emulation files. According to Maxxuss, once you execute emulation mode, it re-writes all the files on your hard drive when executed, to include the emulation. A re-install would be necessary if that is the case. My question was directed to anyone else who might have experienced what I have, or not. My CPU supposedly is SSE3 native (Pentium 4 Prescott 2.66 GHz, model # 505), but I could never seem to get a native SSE3 kernel to work. Not sure what's going on here... Templeton Peck
Maxxuss' site is a bit messed up atm. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the location of the file so I'll give you a hint. Wayland
Alright, to dumb it down just a shade, these files are to patch the DVD installer, is that correct? And do they have to be used in that manner? Can you use them on an osx86 build that already has been made? Also I noticed that the PPF original Mach_kernel is not a ppf, so how do you apply it to a dvd installer? I've been trying to follow the details, and maybe I'm not the only one trying to figure it out -Kc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5593-8f111a-update-available/page/2/#findComment-36032 Share on other sites
