greggh
I cant change my resolution from 1024x768. It just wont change. I have searched the forums and the web. I have tried boris's fix and currently have 32bit color, CI and QE working fine. My card is an ATI x1600 256meg pci-express card. It is built into my laptop. I have put my desired resolution in my com.apple.Boot.plist and it just seems to get ignored. So I have CI and QE working. DVD's play fine. Everything seems to be good. I still cant change resolutions... Any ideas?

greggh
I read through the whole thread, doing just about everything in it that applied to me. I read pretty far ahead to make sure things hadnt changed before doing anything. I think I gave it a pretty good effort. Everything looks great, just wish I could change resolution. Nothing on any of those threads or the ones I have searched out seems to get it going for me, and csreen has no effect. Any help would be much appriciated. I have a 15.4 inch screen on a pretty custom laptop. It has a 71c5 device id (ati x1600 with 256 megs of ram). Its vendor is of course 1002. The device + vendor string does appear in the ati kexts that came stock with my 10.4.9 setup. This setup is based on the JaS image up on the demon. The latest 10.4.8 with the AMD kernel. I did myzars 10.4.9 upgrade and it worked great. I also applied the sec upd 07-04. It is as up to date as it possibly can be. I have tried everything I could find to get the resolution to change. I am completely stumped. So any help would be greatly appriciated.

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Guys, no longer have CI or QE working -------> I no longer have this issue. I replaced all of the ATI*.kexts files with the 10.4.8 versions. DVD player is also now working but I still have the same problem as greggh. I cant change my resolution from 1024x768. Is anyone out there that can help us. Boris, Jas, semthex, video cards/kexts gurus. Please answer our plee.
littlepr
Greggh, I figured it out. You need to copy over all of the ATI* files including the ATINDRV.kext file from 10.4.8 install. You also want to copy over the IOPCCardFamily.kext. Repair permissions and reboot. Upon reboot Open up System Preferences-->Displays and you will see all the available resolutions. BTW, I want to thanks all those who tried to help us. None of the suggestions given helped with our dilema. I was able to figure it out by comparing all new files after the upgrade. I also got a lot of help from m41k on irc.osx86.hu room #1049. Thank you m41k.

Greggh, Jas just told me all you really need to replace is the following files: 4.8 ATI* kexts and the 4.7 atindrv.kext (Already in 10.4.8 freshh install). No IOPCCardFamily.kext needed. greggh
I dont have those. Any chance you could zip up what needs to be replaced and send it to me?
greggh
Ok, I got ahold of them and it didnt work. I removed all the ATI* files/directories/kexts in /System/Library/Extensions and moved in the 10.4.8 and 10.4.7 as littlepr said. Then I fixed permissions and rebooted. It wouldnt load up. So I put back the 10.4.9 files and rebooted, back to where I was. I think it might be my monitor? My built in LCD. I know the EDID of it. Where would I put that if I am not using np_'s LaptopDisplay kext? or should I be using his kext?

Get a hold og Paulicats AppleSMBIOS.kext (backup your current one), install it, repair and see if that works. If not them I don't knwo what could be causing your problem. Sorry but at least I tried. God Luck. BTW, DId you say you're running an AMD rig? If so, then that might be the cause. AMD's sometime need more work than the Intel rigs. Ask an AMD person. I thnk SABR runs AMD. greggh
Yeah. I have an AMD setup. I tried the AppleSMBIOS fix, that didnt do the trick either. One of these days it will get figured out. I hope its sooner rather than later though ps: thanks again for all the help.
