superkona
Which firewire cards / chipsets are best?
sarahbau
I can't really say which is the best since I've only tried one, but I've had no problem with my Rosewill card with VIA 6307 chipset. I got about 34MB/sec copying a large file to a FW drive. No drivers were needed. The only complaint I have is that the 4-pin port and internal 6-pin port are basically useless (it came with a 4-6 pin adapter, so I don't know why they didn't just make it have 2 external 6-pin ports). superkona
sounds like 6307 does not have the same problems 6306 via chipsets do - i have a 6306 card now - sees some devices, others not.
Zulu.Walker
Texas Instruments-based Firewire cards work natively. I believe it's the same brand Apple uses (on their PowerMacs AFAIK). I have an old ADSTech PCI FW, only 2ext/1int FW400. Haven't tried any FW800 (IEEE1394b).
