ATI Radeon 9550 how to get QE/CI supported?

Hi. I have an ATI Radeon 9550 (AGP), and right now, QE/CI are not supported. So far, I've gotten the Callisto driver to work (003), so I can now run at native screen resolution.

Any ideas? I've searched the forums, and I've found a beta installer (still unsupported afterwards), as well as some mention of an ATIRadeon9700.kext. I'm running OS X 10.4.6.

Mac OS X says this about my graphics card:

Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Not Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

Chipset Model: Radeon 9550 AS

Type: Display

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x4153

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Did you try to edit the AtiRadeon9700GA.plugin file? From the FAQ with the Callisto Driver:

11. How do I get the QE/CI/OpenGL KEXTs to work with Callisto?

Look in your /System/Library/Extensions folder for ATIRadeonXXXXGA.plugin/ (XXXX depends on your card model). Edit its Info.plist, under IOProviderClass key change IONDRVFramebuffer to CallistoFB, update or delete Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache, then reboot.

I have a 9600 Pro and this works for me.

That worked! Thanks! So for future reference to any other Radeon 9550 256 MB owners out there, editing AtiRadeon9700GA.plugin with tr5755's method will get you support for QE and CI (with Callisto 003 in my case). I'm working on OS X 10.4.6, but I assume it would work for newer versions too. The only quirk so far is that a random block from a random portion of the screen will be duplicated (like a remnant of a left behind trail) floats here and there. Otherwise, it appears fine.

Video playback isn't entirely smooth yet, but I assume that's something else.

There's another topic about this here -

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry326349

and just in case you can't be bothered clicking the link here's what you need to know....

dev.gif Cool, I got it working, mines a Gigabyte AGP Card, ATI Radeon 9550, 256MB. I'm running 10.4.8

Edited /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext

<string>0x41531002</string>

now I get this -

Display:

Type: Display

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x4153

Revision ID: 0x0000

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1280 x 1024

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Supported

I got the resolution at 1680 x 1050, working fine, looks great on my 22" Chimei, but for some reason it says 1280 x 1024 in the system profiler.

edit - /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

add this -

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1680x1050x32@60</string>

I assume the Mirror is to display the same image through the TV out port, does anybody know how to enable this? wacko.gif

Make sure your monitor can handle this first (check under windows) -

edit - /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

add this -

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x1024x32@60</string>

1280x1024 is the resolution

the 32 is how many millions of colours

the 60 is the refresh rate

check what numbers your using under windows and just use the same.

hi guys. seemes like i tried all the possible ways to fix the problem with QE & CI. But still nothing, i managed to get the Calisto driver work on 10.4.8 (i see if loadin system with -v flag) but no Qe & Ci support.

What do i want to ask is, is there a way how can i remove all the video drivers, like uninstall maybe (because i have plenty of them install, for different cards etc, it's a total messy place right now) so i could start it all over with a clean {censored} of paper.

Or maybe somebody got the solution how to getthis working on 9550?

Thx in advance

My Pc configuration if the following :

Celeron 2.1 modded to work for 3.6Ghz

512 Ram

Mac Os X 10.4.8

Ati Radeon 9550 with 128 Mb on board.

Emm... sorry snarl, but I do all you say, and I'm now with RADEON 9550 AS chipset but, without QE CI...

pd: How i modify ATIRADEON9700.kext (modify Info.plist, I suposse)

yeah, pretty sure it was the info.plist, you'll see some numbers like this - <string>0x41531002</string> - so just change 'em to that. You can find exactly what numbers your card uses in the device manager under windows, it's the vendor and device ID's. It will probably be those numbers though.
