A Wang
Okay I got some good ideas. What would happen if I stuck a mac version (bios flashed) of a graphics card into the motherboard agp or pci slot? Would I have less problems or would something go wrong and berserk? tinkertank
Motherboard needs to be able to initialize the video card. The bios on an old Mac card is not compatible with generic PC bios. Though, if the card is a 7000 or similar, you can flash the card with a pc bios and use it that way ( may or may not work, depending on the card and the size of the flash ram available on the VGA card's bios )... Search the web for "Strange Dogs" and 7000... oh, here's the link: strangedogs.com Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45386-what-would-happen-if-i-stuck-a-mac-compatible-graphics-card/#findComment-324541 Share on other sites
A Wang
So best to stick with the PC version of that card then? frizbot
Yes. PC hardware. The mac versions of the cards aren't made compatible for MacOS X, but the old mac hardware. I'm uncertain about cards made for new mac hardware. I'd assume that they're just the PC versions. Lactobacillus P
Some cards are bifunctional, that is they function on Mac AND PC's. tinkertank
true... some of the early 7000s and Geforce cards were capable of both, till they figured out they could charge Mac users five times more, and made the ROMs smaller so that only the PC ROM would fit. So, yeah, best stick with the PC versions, they'd be cheaper anyway. Purple Puppy
or... if you have a mac card, get a mac motherboard and hardware (incl. processor, etc)! Problem solved!
