Niall
Hey there i have a sony vaio and wish to dual boot Vista and osx86. I can boot both individually, but when trying to boot vista after osx install i get the error upon choosing vista "windows/system32/winload.exe" I find this is a common problem, even a startup repair with the vista installation disc doesn't solve this problem as windows doesn't like what osx has done to the partitioned drive. Ive looked at the chain0 method but im unsure as to what to actually do. Anyone successfully booted Vista and Osx86 10.4.8 If it helps im on a sony Vaio with Gma 900. any help would be greatly apprecated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44963-dual-boot-vista-and-osx/ Share on other sites

Bruce Wang
It's easy to solve Windows.exe problem. I suppose now you boot with Darwin bootloader and can boot OS X without problem. Assuming your OS X partition is the 1st partition and Vista the 2nd, please do the following: 1. Boot with OS X DVD and open Terminal from TOOL. 2. Enter below commands: fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 1 update write 3. Exit OS X DVD and boot with it again. In terminal, enter below: fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 2 quit 3. Exit OS X DVD 4. Boot with Vista DVD and select to repair. 5. Quit Vista DVD 6. Boot with OS X DVD and open Terminal 7. Enter below commands: fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 1 quite 8. Exit OS X DVD and reboot normally. Now you shall be able to boot with Darwin bootloader and run OS without problems. The below thread is also a good reference. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=39253 Bruce Edited March 12, 2007 by Bruce Wang Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44963-dual-boot-vista-and-osx/#findComment-321633 Share on other sites

Bruce Wang
Well...I used to dual boot with Vista, just switched back to XP due to few software supports. Bruce P.S. In Step 7, the last command should be "quit", not "quite". Sorry for the typo. alfdog
I triple boot ubuntu, vista, OSx86. I usually get that error after installing osx. If you have you're vista dvd, just boot from it, and choose to "repair" your install. It takes care of it pretty easy for me, but then again, I'm using grub(ubuntu) as a bootloader hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44963-dual-boot-vista-and-osx/#findComment-327173 Share on other sites
