madmax_2069
i dont know if any one already reported it or not but i went to wal marts and bought a Belkin wireless G+ PCI card model number F5D7001 (there was some with the same model but have a different picture of different cards i chose the one with the broadcom chipset. Tiger detected it right away and in ASP under the airport tab shows as Airport extreme and also it said a new port was available once tiger booted and i went into the network control panel and selected airport and i was off surfing the net. i have tested this for about 3 hours in total so far and not a single drop in signal. but i am running a Beige G3 AIO running tiger 10.4.8, im not sure if this info will help any of you or not but i just thought i would say this card did work in 10.4.8 flawlessly and hasn't had a problem yet. it should not matter if its PPC tiger or intel tiger Airport should be able to detect this card properly and should support the same wifi cards but be warned as i said above there was the same model of F5D7001 G+ cards that had different pictures that had diffrent chipsets on the box and i chose the one that had the pic of the card with the broadcom chipset on it. i don't know if the different pictures represented what version of the same model that uses a different chipset or not but the one i chose was the broadcom one and so far it works flawlessly. i do hope you find this info helpful in some way guy's cause since i cant code or hack i could find some how to try to make finding hardware a bit easier. and BTW the package say's nothing about being compatible with Mac it only list's being compatible with Windows 98 SE and up. so if you want to add a wireless G+ PCI card in your computer i do hope this helps you to find one of the few known working cards (without hack's or 3rd party drivers) and would give people more of a option to choose from. thanks for reading Frank Edited March 4, 2007 by madmax_2069 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44187-belkin-wireless-g-pci-card-f5d7001-works/ Share on other sites
DiaboliK
you actually do have to patch it. in hackintosh's it uses a broadcom chipset with either id's: 14E4,4320 and 14E4,4324 -DiaboliK Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44187-belkin-wireless-g-pci-card-f5d7001-works/#findComment-316112 Share on other sites
madmax_2069
in ASP in 10.4.8 in the PCI cards tab i get this pci1799,7001: Type: Other Network Controller Bus: PCI Slot: C1 Vendor ID: 0x14e4 Device ID: 0x4318 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1799 Subsystem ID: 0x7001 Revision ID: 0x0002 in the airport tab i get this AirPort Card Information: Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme Wireless Card Locale: USA Wireless Card Firmware Version: 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18) Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available the ID's mine show has the same vendor ID in your post but not the same Device ID. i dont know about the versions you posted ID's about but mine was detected as soon as i booted 10.4.8 (but im on a PPC Macintosh). i would not have guessed you would have to hack the OS to get this working since it was found by the Airport software automatically with me doing nothing. so that would make the card as standard support with Airport software. but i guess thats not so with a hackintosh. kernalzero
I just got one of these cards and can't get it to work. any help? Part # F5D7001 v1212, I can confirm it's a broadcom card, BCM4318EKFBG. I get no link lights after I install the card so I can't rule out the fact that the PCI slot isn't on/functioning...I've never tested the pci slot before and don't think I have any spare pci cards around to test :-/ any suggestions? just as a note, I updated my 10.4.5 Jas install using the paulicat method to 10.4.8 via the software update (everything else seems to be working fine) THANKS!!! madmax_2069
are you running 10.4.8, did you apply the hack for the airport software to detect the card, it was said from DiaboliK that some sort of hack (patch) was needed to get the airport software to work with anything. even with something supported by the airport softwareon a hackintosh. i am not sure what version of OS X or airport software gained support for this card. but i would recommend to get 10.4.8 and the latest version of the airport software that you can run and apply the hack (or patch or what ever you want to call it) Edited March 18, 2007 by madmax_2069 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44187-belkin-wireless-g-pci-card-f5d7001-works/#findComment-326331 Share on other sites
kernalzero
well some updated info on this problem. I am currently running 10.4.8 via the combo update from 10.4.5 using the paulicat method (i've had difficulty installing from 10.4.8 dvd's previously and this was the only way I could reach 10.4.8). Just to confirm that my motherboard wasn't screwed I threw in a copy of DamnSmallLinux 3.2 livecd just to see if it recognized the hardware being physically in the PCI slot. Well it does, I can't use it because of drivers but it atleast shows up: 0000:01:0a.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation: Unknown device 4318 (rev 02) MadMax_2069 are you just talking about the airport extreme software available from the apple website? and what hack? PM me if you can't post links of software...THANKS!!!! kernalzero
all I did was get a copy of the IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5, copy it over to the system/library/extensions folder replacing the 10.4.8 copy. added <string>pci14e4,4318</string> into the AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext within plugins. 1) copy IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5 (this is what I did other's may work) authenticate as requested and replace old kext 2) in terminal: sudo -s 3) cd /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/ 4) emacs info.plist 5) find what looks like this <key>IONameMatch</key><array> and add <string>pci14e4,4318</string> 6) control x c then y for yes 7) repair permissions then restart (notice the airport is recognized in top right corner after reboot) 8) open terminal again: sudo -s 9) cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ 10) emacs NetworkInterfaces.plist edit so that it looks like this: <key>BSD Name</key> <string>en1</string> ... <key>IOInterfaceUnit</key> <integer>1</integer> 11) control x c then y for yes 12) repair persmissions and reboot enjoy wireless fun, also credit must go to freakymac for his broadcom how-to Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44187-belkin-wireless-g-pci-card-f5d7001-works/#findComment-327537 Share on other sites

kernalzero
I have maintained a connection for ~6hrs without trouble/disconnect. I'm ~ 40' away from the router through 6 Sheetrock walls and have 2 'bars'. I would say it's fairly stable but just wish it was closer to the router... any benefit to using interference robustness? I've just installed 10.4.6 on my older SSE2 machine. I have the exact same wireless card ID's on my belkin wireless PCI adapter. The airport icon in the menu bar is showing up but says that it is not configured. I am not able to configure a connection in network preferences. My wireless card is showing up as built in ethernet in network preferences (same MAC address). Unforunately I am a complete newb when it comes to the terminal. I tried to follow the broadcom tutorial but I can't seem to figure out how to save my changes in the .plist file in the plugins folder. Could somebody please explain to me how to save my changes?
