Why does my computer never Apple>Restart from a clean install?

It just hangs on the blue desktop with spinning black sun-like emblem, every time.

I always have to just kill the power.

Apple>Shutdown works (and FAST, like 3 seconds)/

Clean install fromRelease1 DVD (patched with Maxuss ANTI-TPM 0.5), then the 10.4.3 patches, plus Cyrana's 945g kexts

- Neo 945G Neo motherboard GMA950

ok, just a followup for those who like to hear people talking to themselves :-)

found scattered info around and i'm pretty sure this issue is because I am booting as ACPI vs X86PC.

ACPI = laptop = typically shutdown works, restart hangs

X86PC = desktop = typically shutdown hangs, restart works

but i'm on a desktop, so i tried to switch it to X86PC.

so i put in

platform=X86PC as a boot flag.

well then i got a kernel panic.

so i copied the AppleIntelI386Generic.kext file from the Darwin CD over.

this time I get a waiting on root device endlessly.

so it's back to ACPI...

problem remains.....

Ah! I've been searching around and this is the first thread that's mentioned this problem, as I am having it too! Shutdown works fine, but when I reboot the system just sits at MACH Rebooting. Any further luck with this issue?

10.4.5 Myzar

Opteron 246

Tyan K8WE

Try this.

Yeah, that's the solution. But it will work only for mach_kernel 10.4.4.

For 10.4.3 kernel, the offset is 0x8CB27 and replace EBEF9090 with B0FEE664 (the source is also omni, of course :))

Hi!

I'm bringing this up again since I didn't want to start a new thread.

I have installed the 10.4.6 Myzar DVD and later patched it with JaS 10.4.8 complete update.

From the beginning I had the same problem (shutdown works, restart does not).

I tried patching the kernel like the wiki suggested, but with this my machine turns off for restart as well.

So I went back to the original kernel, where I can at least use the reset button.

Is there any known solution for my kernel?

uname -a says:

Darwin Kernel Version 8.4.1: Tue Jan 3 18:23:53 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.7.90.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386

this is what i did, since mine did the same. I used 10.4.7 ISO repacked by JaS. Whilst installing, i first got waiting for root device , but i fixed that. Then my other problem was not detecting the HDD. But i fixed that myself as well. So then whilst i was installing it, the RESTART HANGS. Just hold on your power button and is should force shutdown. Just turn ur comp back on. And it still works fine like it was restarted.
