mlmorg
Hi all, I use windows to download stuff (especially emule) because I have never found a good program on mac. But, I want to start using a mac program. The problem is I am at college and they block all ports except 80. I use emule on 80 in windows and it works great, that's what I want in mac! Does anyone know of a bittorrent or program that connects to ed2k network where I can change the port to 80? That would be amazing, Thanks very much, Matt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42030-bittorrent-or-edonkey-program-that-i-can-change-to-port-80/ Share on other sites
quixos
aMule! Universal Binary for OS X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42030-bittorrent-or-edonkey-program-that-i-can-change-to-port-80/#findComment-300490 Share on other sites
mlmorg
It says port 80 is unavailable and I'll have a low id. Azureus says that too. But if I use emule it doesn't and I have a high id. Anything else? mlmorg
What is making port 80 unavailable on my mac? It's not unavailable in emule on my PC...Are there programs that I don't know about that I can tell not to use port 80? Or is there a workaround for Azureus or amule that allow me to use port 80 even if it is being used? There's got to be a program out there that lets me use port 80 on a mac! Interesting, unfortunately I can't change the port numebr to lower than 1024 so probably not the best program for me anyway. By the way...I also thought web sharing was turned off in osx. In sharing all my services are turned off. This may sound dumb but what about the clock and dashboard...and just update services in general? Maybe I'll just be stuck behind this firewall forever haha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42030-bittorrent-or-edonkey-program-that-i-can-change-to-port-80/#findComment-300969 Share on other sites
quixos
well, i'm learning new things. great way to spend an afternoon. i was only a little on track with my previous post. just forget i said anything. bb as soon as i change this sticky port! but, yeah, lots of lowid folks to connect with. ------------------------ http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/change_apache_port.html check this page out. looks promising. i'll be back later tonight. phones are disrupting my concentration. while your at it, get smultron, http://smultron.sourceforge.net/index.html, so you don't have to edit all this stuff in nano. mlmorg
http://cs.nyu.edu/brw215/plugproxy/ Don't really know what this is or how to use it...but could this forward my torrent port from 1024 to 80? ...or something, I don't really understand, too complicated for me. Just throwing out everything I find haha. The thing is, all those services this person is talking about are all turned off in my services tab...so wouldn't they not be using that port? asap18
the best solution for you would be a service like http://ttorrent.net, you can seed and download on their (very fast) servers, and then download from http(port 80) onto your computer. I use it and its great. Sorry but I think the point of p2p is to not pay money haha I'd rather wait for a couple days to download something with a low id than to pay money for someone to do it for me. Also, emule works on my pc on port 80 so if it's really that big a deal I'll just restart and go into xp and download from there...I'm just trying to see if there's an easier solution. Thanks though. patkitchen
Also, a VPN to a computer outside the network would also get around any rate shaping, thats what i did at college last year Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42030-bittorrent-or-edonkey-program-that-i-can-change-to-port-80/#findComment-306166 Share on other sites
