BarryBar
To all who are considering a new card the following after my experience with the Sapphire x1950 pro card Inf you want to reasonably sure to get QE and CI you have to check before you buy the string in the info plist of the ATIRadeonX1000.kext Currently the string in this kext in the 10.4.9 shows this 0x71461002 0x71421002 0x72801002 0x71C51002 0x71C01002 0x72401002 0x72491002. This means the ATI x1300, 1800, 1600 1900 and 1950. There are mixed reports that the ATI Sapphire x1950 xT see the review of section of this forum will work. So this not a sure thing as it probably always is with a hackintosh. The device id is for x1950 XTX is 7240 and that one is in the string. In leopard 10.5 version 303 the string is the string is this 0x72101002 0x71DE1002 0x71461002 0x71421002 0x71091002 0x71C51002 0x71C01002 0x72401002 0x72491002 0x72911002. There are three additions to the first 71DE, the ATI 1700 mobility, 7291, the 1650 series and 7210 for which I could not find ATI matching card on the internet. So my advice do not gamble and check if you want the most chance that your new card will work Edited December 29, 2006 by BarryBar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36963-tip-for-buying-ati-videocards/ Share on other sites
Wipmac
Thanks for this infos! Very useful! So it seems that ATI 1700 Mobility is supported in current versions of Leopard 10.5 - and NOT in current versions of 10.4.x. Is there a way to make these leopard 10.5 drivers work in 10.4.x or is waiting for a final 10.5 the only solution for ATI 1700 Mobility users like me? I think you have to wait for the final 10.5 release. Out of desparation I have also installed all the Leopard kexts including the new ATIRadeonx1000.kext. The problem that then occurs is an error the kext will not because it is compatible with the rest of the system. It was something like this : 16IOATI500 surface is not compatible with its 12IOUserclient superclass changed? Maybe a technical skilled person could extract the necessary bits from the new Leopard kexts and hoepfully add that to the new Neopheus installer. jccool
I cant believe my luck, for 2 yrs I had an x850xt which was 100 percent incompatible and now I take my time to make sure I get one thats fully compatible and now the x1950xtx has res change and i think the pro has something too but the xt has nothing. I guess i'm destined never to have a mac, what about that guy who bragged about having 1440x900 with it? was he in windows? think i should flash my card to 7240? I guess i'm destined never to have a mac, what about that guy who bragged about having 1440x900 with it? was he in windows? think i should flash my card to 7240? It sure looks like it. I know the feeling of frustration if something is not working. In my case QE and CI. Still I would not advice to flash not after trying again and again. In case a flash goes wrong you may end with a card that does do anything. Also there been reports that even after flashing the card was not supported. Maybe you can still returned it. Here in Europe that is difficult. So in my case I could resell my x1950 pro but I would loose money. I now rather wait till the macworld of the 8th of january and see what new videocards Apple has in stall for the Mac Pro. Also with the arrival of the R600 from the prices will drop for the x1950 XTX I hope. To try to get support for your x1950 XT I would First PM the member who put the review of the X1950 XT in. You could him ask he exactly installed to get it working. Secundly you could also try diffrent packages like Neopheus 3.6 installer which is currently not available on the site but I can not attach it because of its size. BTW The JaS package can be found on the JaS dvd 10.4.8. You have to look in the folder System/Installation/Packages. It is called 10.4.8.ATI.radeon.x1x00.pcie.support. So you could try a clean install and Natit uni installer or manual installation of other Natit. If this all does work you also try the ATI kext of 10.4.9 update. In the forum is a thread were you can ask a link to the beta of this installer. In my case the 10.4.9 kext would not give QE and CI but maybe it will help you Edited December 29, 2006 by BarryBar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36963-tip-for-buying-ati-videocards/#findComment-264211 Share on other sites
poplars
I would be the happiest man on earth if someone, anyone, could kill mouse tearing. I have a Mobility Radeon X300 PCIe 64MB. I'm not running OSx86 because of mouse tearing. so, if someone fixes it, you'll be my new god. belgrano
From my experience I can say that although X1950XTX is working natively (that is with QE and CI enabled by default), mouse tearing is omnipresent and after applying Natit Uni the screen is blank (even in safe mode) - the display is connected directly on DVI (I read somewhere that it is possible to work with a DVI-to-VGA adapter...). 10.4.8.ATI.radeon.x1x00.pcie package from JaS 10.4.8 is a dead end also... I haven't tried with BorisBaderov method though... Still busy fighting a kernel panic that occurs after about 35 minutes of running. Due my card not working I installed the osx system many times. The positive thing is that I have now more a idea about how osx work under the hood in single user ect. Still i am no expert since my background is not so beta as other gurus here in the forum. I am curious what brand of the ATI x1950 XTX card you are using? My advice would be to certainly try the Boris method. I 've seen some reports that it workes in combination with the Natit kext. Maybe it is a solution to edit you kexts from xp. That is what I sometimes do. After a kernel panic I would mount the disc in single user mode and in the windows I can then open the kexts and edit them. In this way you would have the time to do the work without that kernel panic bothering you. On reboot you can first go in single user and then repair permissions. Hope to haven been of help in some way. All the luck with your system.
