So, apple releases, finally, dual core powermacs! woohoo! awesome, though even the entry level machine is 6 times more expensive than my little osx86 machine here which would do everything I wanted if the software was out there for it...

But in al that whirl they have announced a new software package, and I'm hoping and praying, but not expecting it would be a universal binary... *sigh*

does anyone have reconmendations for a raw processing package either binary or fast? photoshop and c1 are slow... gimp though lightning fast! does not do what is needed for raw processng...

=) just starting conversation

I don't think that we're going to see any universal binaries from apple until the official introduction of the x86 macs.

The only "bigger" universal app for pictures I know is iPhoto and Gimp.

melchior, you checked a copy?

It installs fine, but once you run it you see the splash screen and the menu's appear, and then it dies with a "illegal instruction" error. (on Native 10.4.3 1099)

This is actually the only application I want to have running on OSX(86), if there is a smart person around here to get it working I would jump a hole in the sky :(

melchior -

It's not that deathchill is the only one who speaks the truth, it's that somewhere along the line there's a miscommunication. Some people have seen the rosetta update, others haven't - perhaps it has something to do with their ADC account, I don't know.

But call everyone else liars is pretty harsh, since at least for me, all I work with is what reliable people tell me.

i was exaggerating for dramatic effect... flamebait to be sure ;-)

deathchill is the only one one who appears to talk publicly. i am sure there are a geat many other valuable sources floating around also doing a good job and giving to the community. Of note on the subject of 8f1111a deathchill is saying it is in fact confirmed at 11.99MB and is passing it on to Maxxuss... So there you go!

At any rate, MWSF is in a months time or something and we will have a final version then, rumours of ibooks and media appliances being true...

just have to wait and see!

Aperture partly works for me on Native 10.4.3 1099.

The preview and full screen editing option doesnt seem to work, but the program is definately running. I have a feeling it is something to do with the onboard gma 900 graphics card. Maybe a higher spec card would work with it, which I dont have.

For info I am running it with 1gb ram and a 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 (Socket 775).

That is quite interesting though....as it does not seem to be CPU related then, while on Mac's it actually checks for the CPU that is being used.

Does it run "fast" ?

I would say it seems to be roughly running at about the same speed as an imac g5 1.8 ghz I have seen it running on, maybe even a touch faster. Albeit the Imac was able to see the image preview/editing screen (after editing the minimum requirement options in the plist file).

the version released at various sharing groups includes a crack for the installer and the actual application itself. the limitation is rosetta.
