Hey there. there’s something that has been crossing my mind and wanted to ask here about experiences using Navi 23 non-XT cards, Whatevergreen, NootRX and MacPro 7,1 SMBIOS.

Does the NootRX kext support the MSI AMD Radeon RX 6600 ARMOR 8G- 8GB GDDR6 - PCI Express 4.0 Gaming Graphics Card (non-XT)? I'll appreciate your feedback and if the card is compatible, what settings, if any, should I update in the config file to make it work in Sequoia and Tahoe (I know it's a beta but I already installed it to test my custom mac). I read somewhere else that this kext support RDNA 2 dedicated cards but someone told me that mine isn't. However the chefkiss page lists navi 23 as compatible DGPU for this kext and this card I have is a AMD rDNA 2 dGPU.

I understand my card is supported oob in mac OS without whatevergreen kext if I use macpro 7,1 SMBIOS, so my other question is: if the NootRX kext supports my card, is there any benefit in using it versus not using it?

 @miliuco, @Cyberdevs, @eSaF, @verdazil, @chris1111 or @Max1974 your feedback is highly valuable and appreciated

Most AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics cards work in the latest versions of macOS (including macOS Tahoe beta) out of the box (WhateverGreen.kext + agpmod=pikera bootarg only). Regardless of the SMBIOS version. However, RX  6600 from some brands may require the use of a set of kexts: WhateverGreen.kext + NootRX.kext.

Thus, if the default option does not work, you should test the option with an additional kext.

Thanks @verdazil I installed Tahoe and it’s running without Whatevergreen and the pikera boot arg as using these resulted in the installation not progressing. I do use Whatevergreen and the pikera boot arg in Sequoia. That’s the only difference I have between the EFI I use for Tahoe versus the EFI I use for Sequoia. I will try Sequoia without Whatevergreen + pikera boot arg to see if it works. I don’t want to use two different EFIs while testing Tahoe.

Haven’t tried in a while the NootRX kext. I tried it once more than a year ago and it didn’t work. I asked in another website and someone told me that NootRX would not work for my dgpu, but ChefKiss site now says the contrary, that it’s supported.

NootRX kext is compatible with RX6600, RX6650, RX6700, RX6750, RX6800, RX6900, RX6950, etc XT or non XT.

You dont need Spoof. You dont need agdpmod=pikera.

This kext don't rename some devices like HECI to IMEI on the fly like Whatevergreen made.

Some cards you need to remove -v to avoid black screen after boot(with NootRX or WhateverGreen). AsRock GPU its a good example.

NEVER use NootRX + WhateverGreen.

Thanks @MaLd0n as always very informative and insightful. is it true that NootRX can give additional power management settings and tuning plus fixes some glitches that could appear if using the card oob or with Whatevergreen?

I've heard of it, but never used it. Any advantages over the WhateverGreen? Sorry if the question is redundant and has been answered already.

@Balamut I started using NootRX in both Sequoia & Tahoe and so far I haven’t noticed any issues so my next step is do some benchmarking to see how many scores I get using whatevergreen (need to check if after Tahoe installation I can boot it with whatevergreen enabled), nootRX and not using any of them. After the benchmarking I’ll share the results here, but at the same time I think some of our IM community members most likely already tested these kexts and can attest which one contributes to better GPU performance.

Sorry late to see your message, so my card is not "native" need Spoof with SSDT Bridge BRG0 and only Works with WEG + agdpmod=pikera (piker alpha) my friend. I try use for test to said to feedback your question, but only can boot with WEG. I use once but Geekbench is down and not so good like im was expected. I just never use before. And new kexts exclusive for Tahoe come out releases here:

Try using this version of Opencore:

Hi @Max.1974 thanks for your feedback. Have you used Cinebench as an alternative to Geekbench?

What’s the difference with this version of OC you’re sharing here?

Hi @jlrycm  This OpenCore setup is also prepared for macOS Tahoe, because until I can test the latest builds, the official releases and OCAT aren't working for me. I didn't run Cinebench because I forgot—haha! Maldon used to run it, and I think it's actually better that way!😆

Obrigado(a). Eu nunca uso -v. Posso usar -v? Meu modelo de ventilador duplo rx6600 ia asus.

Just try because my RX 6900 XT Aorus Gigabyte works with or without -v ;)

But keep -lilubetaall and -keepsyms=1
