spuke
I just deleted the old and extracted the OpenGl.Framework with Pacifist to the Frameworks folder and just diskutil repairpermissions at the end. If you've done everything right it MUST work . wow
Finally, i lost track of how many times i reinstalled. But finally it worked No editing recoured, it autodetected the right id's. spuke: That deleting and extracting did wonders never thought on that, great tip!! One thing i noticed, it gave me a black screen when i boot with the vga connector from my beamer to my vidcard. Only when i boot with only dvi (primairy) on the lcd it works. What I finally did: a. Starting from 10.4.7 b. Applied JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE2 Combo which includes Semthex 8.8.1 Beta9 SSE2 Kernel c. Opened Apple Offical 10.4.8 Combo pkg (from the dmg else you see not the needed files) with Pacifist & extracted following files. (Best delete opengl.framework first and then extract op system/library/frameworks) Extensions => NVDA*.kext GeForce*.* IONDRV*.kext Frameworks => OpenGL.Framework (Replace existing files with above files) e. Copy Titan.kext to system/library/extensions (search the internet where to find them) In the terminal (see applications) i do: f. diskutil repairPermissions / (Repair Permissions) g. cd / system/library/extensions (go the right place to chown and chmod) h. sudo chown -R root:wheel Titan.kext; sudo chmod -R 755 Titan.kext (watch it, it's case sensitive) i. sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache j. sudo update_prebinding -root / -force (Updated prebindings) it gave me and someone else a lot of errors, but do it anyway, dont know what it means or does k. reboot and pray. The 3d screensaver is smooth now and the movies work almost all. Quicktime player complains and hangs to much, so i use VLC Player now, plays almost all videofiles/types. Set in preferences the video to opengl to reduce errors when using deinterlacing and set videofiles to play with vlc allways (via get info, open with). I also updated my software (execpt iTunes) especially java because some websites crased in firefox but now they work. It took me a lot of time but i hope it is usefull for other users too and saves you time. Thanks to Spuke and Chiefwiggum ps OSX still crashes me a little too much, i do have a few problem applications, dont know or it is the "old" b9 kernel or something else. Maybe i should try a new exp5 or exp6, time for the next challange Edited December 23, 2006 by wow Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35743-13th-try-to-get-6600gt-working-with-ciqe-and-b9-need-a-little-help/page/2/#findComment-256564 Share on other sites
nirvanaguy19
Hi did you use AGPGART? was you 6600gt recognized as AGP without using agpgart btw , this method works perfectly, my card is still recognized as pci though, i am wondering if i am loosing some performance by having it recognized as PCI instead of AGP Edited December 17, 2006 by nirvanaguy19 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35743-13th-try-to-get-6600gt-working-with-ciqe-and-b9-need-a-little-help/page/2/#findComment-256686 Share on other sites
wow
No i didnt use agpgart i once read that the only thing it really does is changing the textlabel from pci to agp. So only a name change. After so many times i am glad it finally works. So why dont you try it but xbench it before and after agpgart to see or something changes. spuke
Great to hear you also got it running . Well I ain't complaining if it comes to crashes, nothing really crashed yet, everything going smooth. But you aren't running exp6, as you say?! I'm running exp6, just like other people exp6 is pretty stable right now. iTunes 7 and the new Quicktime running without a problem with Smackbook ^^. Maybe you should reinstall? Anyways, good you got it running . wow
That makes sence. Dont think it is much use now anymore? What does prebindings do? wadewa
Hi, Just to give my feedback. I had a working installation of 10.4.8 (Jas combo update) then I applied the Jas 10.4.8 update with semthex beta9. Solved small issue with mouse and display (i was using titan, i just removed it). Then I get a working installation : 10.4.8 with 8.8.1kernel in VESA mode. From that I used natit installer and I get my leadtek 6600GT AGP 128mb fully working. I didn't use pacifist to get some kext, didn't edit any plist and so. It just simply worked at the first try. I have now quicktime, VLC... fully working without trouble, choppy sound or choppy display. Well I actually only have DVI working (VGA doesn't work but i had the same problem with titan) and TVout if i boot with the monitor unplugged (only TV plugged) Did you try titan or is there any reason you prefer using Titan instead of natit considering that natit have a good installer (with all needed instruction in case of problem) Edited December 18, 2006 by wadewa Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35743-13th-try-to-get-6600gt-working-with-ciqe-and-b9-need-a-little-help/page/2/#findComment-257447 Share on other sites
wow
Hi, thanks for feedback. Maybe it could also work (for some people) if you leave out a few steps. This was for me the only working plan, that really worked for me. If i leaved out 1 step then there was a problem / error later on. I tried used the natit autoinstaller different versions, all without any luck. In luckiest case it wouldnt support my screen, so nothing happened other case it had a black screen or wouldnt boot. But there are were so many variables, one of them, the dvi only connection. Maybe if i tried earlier with aputere size in the bios 128mb and only dvi connected, the result would have been different. But forgive me that i dont delete my harddisk and try again, lol. Maybe i already tried that also, did so many thing so i dont know anymore. Damned now you made me curious  something inside me wants to try now to be sure that didnt work. No i have to fight my self not to wipe the hd and begin again, thanks i think No wait Spuke tried t too and it didnt work, Spuke did you tried with lcd to dvi only or with lcd to lcd and 1 lcd to dvi? In other words do you have 2 lcd's? ps the crashes and non working programs, i had before were with apps i took from the newsgroup, becuase of the criples demo versions supliers offer. I deleted them and tried the cripled version instead and they work. problems are gone. I also had a few websites crashes, i guesed it was java related so installed the java software update from apple, crashes are gone too. I like beta9 exp 6. hemlocker
I do exactly about what you said except "updated prebindings (update_prebinding -root / -force)" after reboot! spuke
Well I had 2 LCD's hooked up this weekend when my Mac OS wasn't working (instead Windows XP), but I suppose now it would work also . It states in the System Profiler that there are two outputs for a screen (DVI & VGA). I might try this weekend, but I'm pretty sure it'll work. I got my first crash today. I was playing a Video file with VLC fullscreen on my background while I was swapping screens with Desktop Manager where on the other screen I was installing WoW. The kubus somehow stopped in the middle and all suddenly disappeared and only the desktop came back. I guess it was my own fault . wow
LOL disconnect the vga one, but in the x-labs -> natit section there are some people playing with dual display settings, have a look there and reports or it works. wow
To be sure , i tried two things today. AGPGart, myxbench scores were to slow, so tried this little fellow. Pci label was gone it was now shown as AGP. Speed was 50% faster but i lost CI and QE and i had crashes a lot. I did a reinstall but now with only the dvi plug in my computer to see if natit installer would now work wihout all the hassle. The answer was no, tried neopheus natit installer 1.0 and when that did nothing i manually replaced it with natit 0.2 to be sure. but didnt work either. vin
YA! AGPGart still cant get most of the cards to get CI/QE. Only a few with the *luckY* card like X1600 (agp) can get CI/QE while apply AGPGart. AGPGart will be faster cos' it is able hardware accelerate, but lost CI/QE. Most of ppl not sure about AGPGart, it's not just change the word "PCI" to "AGP", actually it's enable hardware accelerate, whereas no AGPGart, it's only enable software accelerate. That's why without AGPGart will be slower Edited December 26, 2006 by vin Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35743-13th-try-to-get-6600gt-working-with-ciqe-and-b9-need-a-little-help/page/2/#findComment-261919 Share on other sites
wow
Hi, what do you call hardware accelerate? I thought its only purpose was to change the speed of the bus from 1 x 33mhz (pci) to 8x 33mhz, not to enable some 2d line drawing, blockmoving accelerator. wow
To be sure i did a reinstall with the old settings in the bios. Then the agpgart again now with 64mb aperture. wow
A little change here. Now with the jas 1048 dvd (the original 1048 jas, no ppf file run over it) i reinstalled the full 1048 (no upgrading). Chose natit package but ofcourse no ci/qe But gladly no black screen. So i only added the titan.kext , chown and chmod them. Deleted Extensions.mkext and /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache. rebooted voila everythning worked. One expected to have to delete natit.kext first but somehow it wasnt there. With the ppf file natit is gone and replaced with titan (that was my choice in the first place). So it could be (i think) that with the first install my 6600gt would work the first time. But i am not gone reinstall just to verify this for other people, i am no beta tester. ps something else i tried agpgart with all posible aparture settings in the bios (4mb to 128mb) . But the result were always a blackscreen or boot screen of death or no qe/ci.
