Ventura 13.3.1 is finally running on my HackBookPro6,2 (2010 Dell Latitude E6410, NVidia Tesla Graphics).  My previous attempts at upgrading to 13.3.1 had failed, but a clean install did the trick.  Patched with OCLP 0.6.3 and booting with OC 0.9.1.

About this hack: Ventura 13.3.1

I usually do not comment here the Ventura updates on my 2015 iMac 16.2 because they are "boring", very little useful information, everything usually works as expected, no issues of interest, I update Ventura, reboot in VGA mode, apply root patch to Skylake, reboot and all ok.

OCLP has made upgrading this iMac less interesting 😂

Of course, it is the credit of the OCLP developers.

I'm beginning to feel that my skills may be lacking.  I easily have over a hundred hours in my hack and that was just to get it ready for OCLP.  For the lesser skilled like me, OCLP needs to include a plugin for ChatGPT that allows me to say "build an OC EFI for this old hack!" 😂

Really struggling with this update. Was running Ventura 13.2.1 perfectly, but when I went through the motions of updating to 13.3.1... no dice.

The update appears to have downloaded and installed perfectly, but now the system will not boot - it reboots halfway through the loading cycle. There does not appear to be anything in the logs.

I haven't made any serious changes to the config.plist for aeons, and it was working on 13.2.1... but maybe some rules have tightened around a few things, perhaps? I am running OpenCore 0.9.1 though.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated! Serials and SMBIOS deets removed for obvious reasons.

With the release of Xcode 14.3 available only with Ventura, Apple is dragging me kicking and screaming away from Monterey which has served me so well as my production macOS on my HackMini8,1.  I just installed Ventura 13.3.1 + 13.3.1a RSR on my hack.  Install was painless and all appears to be working perfectly.  Many thanks to everyone else who has patiently tested and debugged Ventura to pave the way for the late adopters like me and special thanks to the boot-loader developers who tirelessly work through the issues with each new macOS release.  I'm booting macOS with OC 0.9.2.

I checked my boot logs and I concur that similar errors found by @Rocky12  linked to my DVD drive are reported on port 5.( ATAPI iHAS124 )

[ 1038.918994]: [AHCI][PRT][00170050] AbortCommands::5382:Port 5 - called, deviceWithError 0, errCode = 0xe0030005
[ 1039.922332]: [AHCI][PRT][00170050] AbortCommands::5382:Port 5 - called, deviceWithError 0, errCode = 0xe0030005
[ 1040.926057]: [AHCI][PRT][00170050] AbortCommands::5382:Port 5 - called, deviceWithError 0, errCode = 0xe0030005

However :

Startup, functionality or shutdown have not been affected (so far). Verbose boot Log is  pretty fast but does not stop or pause during this "Error".

The DVD Drive is fully operational,  and no change have been noted in booting speed or shutting down.

If it’s not broken, I won’t fix it. I’m weird like that. :hysterical:

Hi, how to fix this issue about errCode = 0xe0030005 during booting since Ventura 13.3.1 ?

Changed SMBIOS to MacPro7,1 can not fix it yet !

[Solved]

After disconnect internally DVD this issue about errCode = 0xe0030005 during booting since Ventura 13.3.1 disappeared !

That means no AHCI DVD no such an issue !

Hi, I have the very same issue with Sonoma (I didn't try ventura at all) on my MSI Z390 mobo. It' s perfectly working with Monterey but no way for this Issue with Sonoma. I tried both Clover (that I'm actualy using) and OC. So you mean I have to giveup the DVD player to get it working? Thanks

Yes, that's the only way to fix it according to my experience.

  • Thanks 1

I still deploy 2 cases that are fitted with DVD drive bays and in both I have a LG brand  BlueRay RW drive installed with both functioning without issues under macOS Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura as well as Sonoma.

Just wanted to let you know.

To be honest, in conducting the test, it made me kind of miss having the option of a CD Drive as I still have a load of DVD disks both Burned and New in my tackle box.

I wonder how many of us still has a DVD Drive in our setup since Apple dictated the removal of the Drive with the P/C case manufacturers following suit.

In my old setup, I actually had two installed in a Storm Trooper case configured player to player. Man, that setup was sweet!!!

I then bought a 'Be Quiet' p/c case with no DVD Player slot which then made my Drives redundant but I still retain them just incase.

Don't know if I misread or quietly hoping, but I am sure there was a piece saying DVDs are making a return to the p/c market.

If that's the case I am ready, I have already been perusing the various sites for cases with DVD Drive slots as I got rid of the Storm Trooper case long ago.

I supposed just like everything in life, we have come full circle. :)

Well. first thanks all for your replies. Then, I must say I've been working in and with music for about 30 years and I can't live without music. You can imagine how many cds and dvds I have. If you add that I'm not a teenager any more (born in 1956) and that I think that mp3 and other staff but FLAC are absolutely s***t, you can understand my interest in having a full functional CD/DVD player. I don't follow this "so called" trend to consider cds and dvds dead. Liquid music is not the best but since unfortunately I can't always use my turntable and LPs it's a kind of compromise. Anyway I'll work on this issue to understand where the problem is. Otherwise if it's related to my mobo, I'll stay with Monterey but hackintoshers usually don't give up easily it seems... Thanks again. I'll post updates if any.

@bluenote56 maybe off topic here but doing the test and playing a few of my music disks, I don't know if it was my old ears but the music sounded crisper and clearer than my stored Mp3 music files.

So I know exactly what you mean by not having a functioning CD/DVD player drive in your setup.

Hope you find a solution soon.:thumbsup_anim:

I' m sure it's off topic so I'll not  bore you to death with a technical talk on sound recording and reproduction. It' easy ...your cds thought maybe not so good (as the first Genesis editions) will anyway sound better than mp3. Everything sounds better than mp3 even Yoko Ono . No I was just kidding.  Cheers

Well, I had to struggle very much indeed. Tried with Clover (working Monterey EFI) then with OC, reset nvram for ages, actually cursing a little bit, but after three beers and some extra cigarettes I could reach desktop with Clover, tried OCLP but there was a problem with AMFI, even if the famous amfi_get_of_my_way =1 was there. Then again with OC and this time OCLP worked. Eventually booted with Clover and bang.

Dont' know really what was the cause of this mess and I'll see if there will be other issues in the future  but for now I'm listening with AKG K702 since it's 2,51 am here and neighbours could happily lynch me.

Quoting the amazing Neil Young (hope he'll not kill me for this)  "hackintosh never sleeps" :)

Thanks guys for your support.

I think there should be a way to extinguish these messages.

Amazing, I get the same log for ages, but not always, then it boots . After clearing many times nvram (about 15) it boots without this boring log. I don't know why.

p.s.

Only for feedback. On my Sonora/Msi system everything works but whatsapp-prime video- skype -speedtest
