"Works" is a broad term, as most video cards "work" under OS X, some better than others. I assume what you mean is that the video card works 100% with all features of the OS (Core Image, OpenGL, Quartz Extreme, resolution switching, etc). I'll let others handle those answers, as I use a motherboard with built in GMA 900 video, which works 100% (although I'm about to upgrade to a GMA 950 based board).

Cheapest 100% working video cards are AFAIK the low-end nVidia models, like: 5200, 6200, 7300 ... You should check the Natit HCL:

NOTE: NO Ati cards lower than x1300 are 100% supported, and even with > x1300 success rate varies!

Does anybody know if any of the LE model cards work with Natit? I checked the wiki and didn't see any, but they seem to be pretty cheap cards. I mean like specifically the Geforce 7300LE cards on Newegg. Also, I am currently running a system with GMA 950, and it seems kinda laggy (spinning beach ball style), would getting a pci-x card speed things up?

So the LE Models do work with Natit? And what kinda performance boost can be seen moving to a pci-x card from a GMA950 set-up?

When I put in my 7600GS, I noticed gfx running a LOT smoother, games work faster, and QE/CI is improved, eg. in the program Chocoflop.

Hehe, that's not very surprising

I'm currently using a friend's 6200TC w/ 64MB DDR RAM, which works impressively smoothly. Video playback can be a bit choppy, but i think that's partly due to a 1600x1200 resolution, and HD mkv's are troublesome for it too...
