Guys,

I just bought one of these babies for $ 699.00 (BestBuy) and I am planning on making it a Hackin0sh. I think this is going to be the best look-a-like Hackint0sh out there. I just hope JaS' 10.4.8 can run on the Duo Core Centrino.

Wish me luck...

That's a :) steal!! :)

Would you mind buying some of them for us living outside of US? :D

Guys,

That is not possible. Sorry. Those things went out like if they were PS3's...quick, fast but thank God no one got shot or trampled. These were not advertised until Sunday morning. I had stopped by on Saturday to compare their price to CompUsa who was selling them for $999.00 but had an instant rebate of $100.00 and a mail-in rebate for $100.00. BestBuy had the laptop but they had no rebates (No longer offerred by them) and would not match the the CompUSA price after "REBATES". Then I woke up Sunday morning, went out for my cup of java and the paper. While looking at the BestBuy Sunday specials I see this baby as a "WOW" product. When I saw the price, I couldn't believe it. Not only did BestBuy have it on sale a day after but they had it for $100.00 less than the CompUSA price which was $799 after the rebates. In other words I paid $999.00 minus an instant discount of $300.00. I ended up paying $699.00 + 8% tax ($755.99). That is a total savings of $324.00 (difference between paying regular price vs price after instant discount). Now that is what I call a sweet deal.

I still have not tried loading OSX on it because I have a party gig this friday and I am going to be using it. I don't want it going down yet. I will probably try it on Sunday.

I guess the only drawback, besides the 5400 rpm disk, is the Intel abg wireless card.. not supported in OSx86 as far as I know... please let me know if I am wrong.

But nonetheless, it is a beauty.

Enjoy!

That is the only drawback but I am covered cause Ihave one of these:

802.11b/g WLI-U2-KG54-AI Buffalo

1. Switch off U2 mode with the tiny switch on the side

2. Install newest ralink drivers. Driver here [2] (my used version was 1.1.5.0)

3. Edit /System/Library/Extensions/RT2500USBWirelessDriver.kext/

Contents/Info.plist and add this:

<key>Buffalo</key>

<dict>

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.Ralink.driver.RT2500</string>

<key>IOClass</key>

<string>RT2500USBWirelessDriver</string>

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IOUSBDevice</string>

<key>bcdDevice</key>

<integer>1</integer>

<key>idProduct</key>

<integer>103</integer>

<key>idVendor</key>

<integer>1041</integer>

</dict>

4. Restart and it works!

Hi littlepr,

I am not sure I understand you: you mean that you have installed Mac OS X on your Vaio and everything works, including wireless?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Don.

dbbis,

I haven't installed it yet. I need the laptop on Friday night. Me and a buddy have to DJ a Xmas party and we use our laptops so I don't have plans to try loading OSX until the weekend. I am pretty confident it will work except for the wireless and sound/audio. OSX does not have drivers for PRO-Intell a/b/g wireless but I have one of these Buffalo 802.11b/g WLI-U2-KG54-AI USB adapters which do work after installing the drivers for it and editing the Info.plist. I won't know about audio until I attempt the install. Once I install OSX and hack the driver for the USB wireless adapter, I will post the results.

Well I have a Sony Vaio Laptop Model VGN-FE550G, and eventhough I was able to install the Jas 10.4.7 version with the Jas 10.4.8 update and not have sound and/or wireless, unless I used an external source, such as USB sound speakers and/or USB wirless adapter, I decided to attempt to install the latest Jas 10.4.8 DVD version, in hopes that it would make a difference - especially with the sound issue, but it would'nt even install, all I would get is a Blue Screen during install process, and finally just gave up.

  • 2 weeks later...

Guys,

I ended up returning the Sony VAIO® 15.4” Widescreen Notebook PC (VGN-N130G/W). It had bad memory issues. They didn't have anymore in stock. I will have to wait and see if I get lucky with one of these again. The price has gone back up to $999.00 and I don't plan on paying that much for this laptop especially after finding out how {censored} the speakers are.
