I may have found the perfect osx86 laptop where EVERYTHING works out of the box, and cheap too! I know, you may be doubtful, but look at the specs!

Celeron M 420 @ 1.6GHz (Has SSE1, SSE2, SSE3, so rosetta is possible!!)

512MB DDR2 (Easily Upgradeable!)

Intel GMA950 (QE and CI out of the box!)

40GB Hard Drive (...!)

ADI Audio Chipset (sound works!)

Broadcom Wifi (not Centrino, it works)!!!!!!

see here!

it's cheap too!

also, notice that the link i posted was in canadian dollars.

i don't see anywhere on apple.ca about a macbook that's only $1000 bucks.

besides, there's nothing wrong with the celeron m, it does what i need, and the post was about the perfect "osx86" laptop, not the perfect osx laptop. that is what this whole OSX86 project is about, right? making osx86 work on normal PCs.

and finally, if i can save $200, why not? the hp machine is refurbished too, and extened batteries are very cheap. seems pretty darn good to me!

but i do have one question. i have read somewhere that some laptops require a 6 to 11 pin connection with a paperclip on the vga port in order to use the screen. is this true??

yesh it is true (paperclips) but i wouldn't call this the ultimate osx86 laptop, osx86 is os x on intel. and this ain't perfect or let alone anywhere near to ultimate i can think of many other laptops (non apple) which work better than this, now maybe a celeron M is good for your needs, but for most people it just doesnt cut it, especially in os x and the ram (512 is a complete shcoker) OS X needs more to run smoothly. It even slows down on my macbook with 1gb

hehe.. lol.

the only reason i called it ultimate is cuz the specs are something that osx86 will run on perfectly. heck, i even got it to run on a P4 williamite (which is freakin old and slow), but it ran just fine (sans QE and CI, and i never noticed a huge difference).

i know that the core 2 duo's are much faster, but i have no idea why yours may be running as slow as you say it is. i figure if i get this cheap laptop (only $750 canadian) and throw in a 1gb stick of ram, i'm in business.

on another note, do you know which laptops that paperclip this is needed for, and why?
