Big Sur, Clover, and Asus X299 Prime-A

Has anyone tried installing Beta 2 or 3 with Clover

I have it configured using MaLd0n's flash stick, but both OC and Clover EFI's get stuck at apfs_module_Start:2252

I don't want to use OC. It does nasty stuff to the NVRAM, as in inserting boot arguments that aren't in the config file.

I've tried using my config from a known working 10.13.6, which also works with 10.14.6. and 10.15.5 for this motherboard.

The Asus X299 Prime-A is different than other motherboards. What works for them doesn't work for the Asus

Any thoughts? Kind of stumped here.

Have you had any success with your X299 board and clover?

None with Big Sur, neither with clover or OC.

Everything else, 10.13.x to 10.15.x Clover works great, yes.

I saw there's a BS Beta 4 that people on Orarlila are claiming better results with on with OC, but I haven't been able to test it.

I suspect, though I haven't tried yet for various reasons, that my EVGA X299 Micro will be easier. The reason for that is porting from my X79 EFI to the EVGA X299 only required I add slide=0 to the boot arguments. I still needed a few tweaks here and there, for USB icons, and USB ports, but it was a relatively painless port. The Prime-A port took a few days to find a working config file and tweak that.

As I'm not familiar with OC, I can't really tweak it. I'm using the one with Orarlila, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. :(

Download the Opencore EFI from my sig for your X299. Change iMacPro serial using Opencore configurator. It should work.

Reset NVRAM first from OpenCore boot options.

Z490 and Z370N. No X299? Or should I use one of those?

Oof. I threw my X299 system into garbage bin on 12th Aug 2020. The most worthless platform created by Intel. I replaced it with Z490 and couldn’t be more happier. Sorry.

Ugh.

I hear you. Before the x299 I tried a z390. But 16 PCI lanes just doesn't cut it for audio or video. The Sonnet MVE card, that's an option in the new Macs, would burn that up and leave nothing for a hardcore GPU.

The other issue for me was the heatsinks for the z390 CPUs. You can't fit the fan/heatsink in a 2 space rack because they're too tall.

The WS CPU's that the new Mac Pros use are just more than I want to spend.

Well if you've ever posted that EFI anywhere else and find it, or have a copy on a backup drive please let me know.
