2LMan
Hi, I just recently made the switch from Hackintosh to Macintosh and was wondering... I bought a Macbook Pro with a X1600 with 128mb of video RAM. I am going to put 2GB of RAM in it, would it make any difference if I had the 256mb version of the X1600? I will mostly be playing games like WOW and Call of Duty 2. Does anyone have the 3dMark scroes that could compare these 2 cards? I have searched Google and found nothing on the 256mb version. Any suggestions or comments are MUCH appreciated! Thank you!!!! Paranoid Marvin
I think the extra VRAM will help with demanding games, especially at high res. Also, with programmers relying more on CI, I think it helps to get as much VRAM as possible. Try looking at Xbench scores Maybe I'm just saying this because I feel deprived with 64mb.... Adrian Fogge
Take Half-Life 2 for example (obviously through Bootcamp)... Under my MacBook Pro C2D 17" (256MB Graphics, 2GB System), I can play at 1680x1050 with everything maxed out and get 74.1 FPS. On my friend's MacBook Pro C2D 15" (128MB Graphics, 2GB System), he plays at 1440x900 with everything maxed out at 51.8 FPS. While this is quite literally an Apples to Apples comparison (couldn't resist), there are still some things that could be done to make it a bit more of a scientific comparison (like the 15" 128MB to 15" 256MB at the same resolution). murcielago585
the card is too crappy for it to matter, i'd just stick with the 128, cause when it might be better for intensive games, the core processor of the video card wouldn;t be able to handle the intensive game in the first place. non sequitur
to the above poster, you are full of {censored}. i have the 256MB vram and i couldnt be happier. its better than my desktop was (even though i needed and upgrade) and i can run CounterStrike: Source at 1440*900 and anti aliasing x2 at quite a good fps (dont know the exact numbers). i can also run bf2142 well, but it doesnt have widescreen res built in. murcielago585
sorry buddy, but i bet the 128 can play it just as well. and i was talking about graphically INTENSIVE games. try a 1440x900 res wit 2x at on oblivion and tell me how it goes. that thing is an underclocked x1600 pro.
