Kaku
Greetings! So I managed to get a Catalina 10.15 vm up and running in ESXi 6.7u2. When I try to install Catalina updates, however, it goes to the Apple logo, status bar moving ever so slightly, reboots again and this time hangs on the Apple logo. To fix this, I either remove or disable "Mac OS" as an option in the bootloader. Is there a way to get these updates to install? In the meantime... I instead of restarting Catalina after choosing to update it, I shutdown the guest. After a restart it SEEMED to update with the time duration countdown. Prior to this I did run disk utility and checked Untitled and Untitled-Data for errors (I don't think it found any). So I just logged back onto the VM and the version is still 10.15 and NOT 10.15.2 as hoped. So weird. Any ideas? Naki
I think you need a Kernel Patch. This is done via a 2nd, working MacOS VM, at least with VMware Workstation it works this way. So, if you use just this ONE VM, you will need to copy it so you can get TWO VMs. NOTE: IF VMware Workstation is an older version, then it requires the above mentioned Kernel patching to run after update. IF it is newer and supports macOS Catalina natively, then no such manual patching is needed, just the proper VMware Tools. Kaku
Hi Naki, thanks. I can easily create a copy of the VM so I have two. I have Workstation which can be used to connect to the host esxi machine. How do I patch the kernel? Naki
See this thread:https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/339066-catatalina-beta-1015-anyone-got-it-booting-yet/ It explains how to do this via VMware Workstation. I have no idea if it will work same way for ESXi, sorry but I never used that. However, that thread may not have the Kernel Patch for this exact version 10.15.2. Please note when Catalina became Final, i.e. went from Beta to RTM status, shortly after VMware Workstation with full macOS Catalina support got released, which needs NO such kernel patches anymore. So, I think the person who diligently kept giving us those many DP1, DP2/etc Beta Kernel patches, then Final version Kernel patch may not have or at least did not give any 10.15.2 patch. It is possible it still exists somewhere, I am not sure.
