Intel D945GNT *USB* Problem with JAS 10.4.8 update

This new kernel update has completely hosed my install.

I was so busy trying to fix all of the ethernet problems that I didn't realize that my USB ports were trashed, too.

Anyone else on an Intel D945GNT get your USB working with the JAS 10.4.8 DVD?

And anyone out there with a working install (at least on an Intel D945) that is considering trying out this latest JAS 10.4.8 DVD to get the new kernel--I HIGHLY recommend against it until some of these issues are solved. My system worked fine, and now it barely runs at all. Plus I have the problem that I can't download patches directly (no network) nor can I easily transport them from another computer (no usb--and therefore no thumb drive support)... What a nightmare.

I have a D945GNTLKR system. The first JaS 10.4.8 DVD worked fine for it (the "broken" version). The second "fixed" reseeded version didn't work at all.

Wow--that's crazy.

And people said that DVD didn't work at all--i.e. that it was corrupted.

Any idea where I can get it these days?

Well, I finally cleaned up the USB mess by reinstalling with the USB FIXER TURNED OFF.

(Why is it there, anyway? It breaks USB!)

In order to do this, I had to:

1. Remove the drive from the system, put it into an external case.

2. Attach it via firewire to a real Mac.

3. Rename System and Library to oldSystem and oldLibrary.

4. Return to drive to the X86 case.

5. Reinstall with nothing but the Semthex kernel and 950 video support.

Ethernet is still dead....but that's another thread.

Some people had minor problems after installing it and others couldn't even get the installer to start. Others were somewhere in the middle. Even though JaS pulled it before rebuilding a new DVD for the "reseed", some people reposted the corrupt iso and it can be found if searched.

Some of the testers of the DVD couldn't get USB to work without it. Since the kext is from the Apple development kit, it was deemed safe to add as an option if you needed it. There is even an older thread on the board that recommends this fix for getting USB2 when you can only achieve USB1.

I have the same problem becuase i also have 945GNTLKR

Adding the USB patch is an option. Don't choose it.

Had to do a 10.4.8 install after the 10.4.9 update trashed my perfectly working 10.4.8 install which came all the way from 10.4.6.

From the 10.4.8 JaS DVD, I ticked all what's under the JaS option under the OS X installation, it went perfectly until it reboots and after playing the blank 'welcome' movie, it presented me with a message saying that it can't find any keyboard attached -- mouse is broken too.

I'll try again the install tomorrow, and will deselect the USB Fixer option during install.

@TomA2 ... thanks for the tip, pal.
