SSD slow write speed

15 posts in this topic

Hi there.

I'm facing a problem with low write speeds on my Intel 540s 120GB ssd.

This issue happens on High Sierra 10.13.6 and on Mojave 10.14 , too. It happens also on hfs+ and apfs.

Here is a screenshot of the speeds.

Need your advice.

Thank you.

Try without Trim enabled. I had a very similar issue on an Intel 300 Series SSD a few years ago. Ran like a dog the minute Trim was enabled. Ok without...

I enabled trim just to see if anything changes. Benchmark is the same with trim disabled , also in apfs and hfs+.

Maybe is something wrong with my Intel 540s ? Intel SSD toolbox shows good health.

Could just be the app you used of course. Or Mojave if that's what you run on... 'tried Black Magic to compare? I's free off the AppStore.

:thumbsdown_anim: Very poor Write speed knowing that Intel states performance values up to 560MB/s for sequential Read and up to 400MB/s for sequential Write. I'd have expected at least 300MB/s.

50 to 80MB/s is what legacy IDE technology gave... I achieve ~60MB/s Write with an mSATA SSD fitted to a ZIF PATA (=IDE) interface in my old Dell D430 laptop.

If you can, try with another disk (even a mechanical HDD).

I recovered high Sierra (so as to have the same configuration ) to a Samsung 830 64gb.

Here are the results.

I think 160mb/sec is the top of Samsung 830 64gb.

Sure. My ticket is still open. Haven't heard any news.

Doubt that Intel will replace my ssd. I'm sure that will say that drive operates well.
