Universal says we're thieves...

Universal Music Group chairman says anyone with a portable music player is a thief.

"These devices are just repositories for stolen music, and they all know it," UMG chairman/CEO Doug Morris says. "So it's time to get paid for it."

Time to add Universal Music to the list of things I boycott.

Well isn't that just peachy, the ripp-off artists calling other people thieves.

I own an iPod, and the music on it is totally legal, ripped from my CDs or purchased from iTunes.

Now if Doug Morris thinks there is a decline in revenue because of these music players, then wait till he sees the decline in his revenue when I and my family no longer purchase any Universal CDs.

That will make Universal's revenue drop at least $250 next year.

Take that Douggie :hysterical:

If users are being coerced into paying for something they may or may not have stolen does it nullify any litigation against them if they do later steal it? Since, by Universal's own admittance, they have paid for it with their Zune purchase.

Does buying a Zune grant me the legal right to scavenge Limewire for Universal Artists and place those songs on my device I bought solely as a "repository for stolen music and we all know it," hence the Zune tax inception to begin with?

How do they suppose they're going to 'get paid for it' if NOBODY buys the Zune???

MS is five years worth of development too late. If they wanted to be in the game, they should have released something back in '02-03. iPod is pretty standard, I think the cake has already been taken. MS should have been focusing on trying to come up with the "next big thing" but they're too much of a dead horse (w/ plenty of $$$$$) these days.

I have a iPod, I've bought all my music for the past 2 years via iTunes; the rest came from cds (which I still have). I guess I'm one the few... why should I have to pay for licensing of pirated music I don't have?

i think the world has change and the record companies are dead if they dont turn in to the online market .

That s why universal join the Zune project but they still crying about the market they have lost
