Ideally you want something based off an Intel 945GM board. Of course a Core processor would be a big plus, but if you can avoid AMD and stick with Intel. If you are not planning on heavy gaming with it, try to find something with GMA950 video. Of course SATA hard drives are preferable to standard IDE. Make sure you can replace the internal wifi card or make sure you pick up a laptop with a supported card.

EDIT: Oh and for god's sake avoid anything with an ATI x200 video card!

Why don't you just buy a Macbook or Macbook Pro, anyway? You'll have a perfectly working legal copy of Mac OS, and also you'll be able to run windows on it. Plus, it will have the Apple logo on it.. Nice one to carry around. :sorcerer:

Because then I'd be taking the easy way out. (Though I would like to add that I do have a legal copy of Tiger, I do not believe in software piracy). Besides I think that a properly built laptop could outperform a macbook and do so at a much cheaper price point. And if not, then atleast I'd have some fun doing what most people wouldn't dare to do.

ahaha, the easy way out, you fool. Its the smart way out. macbook will alwyas outperfrom, as it can use the newer kernel and doesnt have any nagging issues (like most lappies have (running osx86))

just buy a macbook.

i think he is asking a valid question...he just wants suggestions on buying a notebook that won't have too many issues with a hackintosh. be reminded though the ultimate purpose of this site is to let you taste the power of a mac osx until you have enough money to buy a real mac... support jobs and his team for their hard work too...

no offence meant to anyone... sorry

sorry to break it to you, but if you don't believe in using software illegally, then you shouldn't be considering installing OS X on a PC laptop, it's illegal. To use Apple's software on a non-apple machine and to download and use a hacked version of their OS is stealing (also known as software piracy).

Most (many?) people as far as I know can't use both cores on their laptops, without stuttering and kernel panics. If you want a solid laptop like no other http://www.apple.com/macbook/ if you want a troublesome experience that's more frustrating than fun, www.dell.com.

Really I can't recommend a macbook more, it's the most sold laptop I've ever used.

If you want fun and challenge, build a core 2 box or a cheap pentium D box, overclock it and install OS X. Find a way to create a raid 0 and make a dual-screen beast. There is plenty of fun and challenge in that. I've played with OS X on laptops and it's a crazy headache.
