I have quite a similar system to really_guest. I built mine from an ASRock 775i945GZ MB, with a nice Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0GHz and half a gig of DDR2 533 ram. I installed first from the HOTiSO DVD, then upgraded with the JaS 10.4.8 combo updater, but the system was so unstable, it'd crash if I just looked at it funny.

So I downloaded the full JaS 10.4.8 DVD and installed from that. Seemed Rock Solid, but no ethernet. So I copied the IONetwork kext from the HOTiSO DVD and that gave me back my ethernet and also put in the sound system patch, but got instant instability, so I backed off the audio patch. I've tried to type this message in 3 times from Safari and it keeps crashing. The error is:

Exception:  EXC_ARITHMETIC (0x0003)
Codes:	  EXC_I386_DIV (divide by zero)

Thread 0 Crashed:
0   <<00000000>> 	0xffff032a __gettimeofday + 74 (cpu_capabilities.h:219)

...etc...

I think I'm having a timing issue because I keep seeing things like this in the log:

Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime: last_mach_absolute_time 793883410000007C
Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime: this_mach_absolute_time 775E8C340000007C
Nov 27 00:37:42 testos-computer mDNSResponder: mDNSPlatformRawTime went backwards by 31 ticks; setting correction factor to 1023129713

Also, all video stuff is stuttery - like 2 steps forward and one step back. Even quicktime jumps back as it is playing. Very strange. Screen savers jump backwards as they are zooming a pic, etc.

The question is: What can I do? I ended up downloading FireFox to put in this message - I just couldn't get thru it in Safari.

Any thoughts?

Patrick

P.S. Also, if the system sleeps, I can't get the video back. The system wakes up and seems like it's doing something, but no screen. It worked before when I booted from the HOTiSO DVD, but I think it was just running in basic VGA mode - no CI QE.

@dubhead: I don't know..how can I found the infos?

@armus2112: the usb fix: http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers...d/usbdebug.html . For the correct mach_kernel permission, look in terminal for "-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel" enjoy :sorcerer:

@bibendum: sorry, I've no idea :)

Well, I started over with my software. Formatted my HD, installed from the JaS 10.4.8 full DVD, selecting the GMA 950 patch and the Mifki kernel, copied my IOFamily kext from 10.4.6 to get my network back, added the cpus=1 to my Boot.plist and DANG! This tinker toy has been stable and usable. And fast as my G5... I still haven't enabled audio, little scared to...

really_guest - what FireWire card are you using?

Patrick

really_guest - is there any way that u can write up a how-to that is a bit more extensive? u have lost me on some parts.

can the neccessary sound, usb, network patches be installed directly from the 10.4.8 jas cd?

if not, where do i get them from?

the whole mach_kernel thing confuses me

thanks

-Tom

@dubhead: My Firewire: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 PCI now active, GUID 00601d0000000d9d; max speed s400

Remeber to update the bios to 1.40 for cpus=2 :)

I've made a fresh install, the apply the usb apple's patch and copied the 10.4.7 realtek driver. Sound works if you change some value in plist file (search the howto).

I have a intel pentium d 805 processor and i cant seem to make my sse3 install mac osx to work. It just craches after the install. When i try to install the sse2 then all works just fine.

I tryed mac osx 10.4.7 jas version. I am running the sse2 right now but has anyone any suggestions how to make sse3 work? Coz the cpu test shows that it is sse3 capable....
