I just tested the latest semthex beta I was given on IRC and I must say it really rock even on my "Nortwood" any other kernel failed before. I also tested with my notebook and xbench is really rocking. :gun:

btw. titan and natit work great with it and supports now even my usb!

The bunch of bugfixes Semthex did to the original source from Apple make it work better than ever seen. I also tested the mifi kernel before but that just crached at my box.

Really applaud to you man, just donated! :)

thx x 10000 times!!!!!!!!!!!!

thx for the applaud. The kernel is still in development and the final will still far much better so hang on for it. I did serveral other bugfixes to it to resolve some bugs left over from apple hope you enjoy it :-)

Btw. thanks for the donations!

EDIT: YOu are sure you have a Nortwood? Northwood is SSE2 only.

Yes, many thanks to semthex! AMD x2 4400 with 7800gt working now. I pull in 183ish in xbench without the drive tests (5400 crappy drive I'm using).

Only problems are clock lag and slight stutter in audio when I first play something. I can't wait for the final release!

Wish I could have the same words of encouragement as everyone else here but I find the mifki kernel to be more stable, this doesn't mean better, just more stable, it has it's own set of problems but stability isn't one of them.

I've got a 945GNT and some software that I runs hangs after a few hours of use when I use the semthex kernel and this doesn't happen when I use the mifki kernel.

Benchmarks are misleading and is not somehting to really gauge how some software performs, what good is it if it's fast but you can't depend on it?

Hi BuildSmart,

Just wanted to let you know that you might be getting less than stellar results using this kernel, because the semthex "nebukadnezar" release that this thread is about, is intended only for AMD processors, so I'm even surprised that it installed properly on your 945 mobo system.

Just thought you might want to know,

Cheers!

Please try to stay on topic.. this is a test results thread for the nebuchadnezar kernels, i.e. what works for you or what specific problems you have running it, not a comparison thread with other builds.

Nebu is not AMD specific, it's high intelligent and works well on both AMD and INTEL. It can be used even with some other Cpu manufators stuff... but i forgot the name lol.

If you are on Intel yoau won't notice it is AMD able too, no speed loose or something. WE benchmarked it very carefully. Because of sereral tweaks and bug fixes from Apple original source it is even faster than the common base one.

Yes that was a mistake on my part, I've been testing kernels on everything I can get my hands on and unfortunately there is only 1 AMD machine for testing, I should have referenced "nCK804Ua-LFS (AOpen)" (relating to this specific kernel test) however myself and it's owner haven't had much luck getting properly working video using the semthex kernel for some reason so it's been nothing more than a test machine as far as x86 and .8 is concerned.

The old kernel seems to be very stable and only once in a while under .7 the machine would crash but the crashes were few and far between and only seemed to occurr if the machine was left on for more than a week.

Personaly I don't own any AMD stuff and have a preference for Intel products but I do test everything I can where-ever I can whenever I can.

I just finished building my test partition based on a set of instructions by RajkoSto. I started with the jas-10.4.7-install.iso, added the 10.4.8 update from Apple, etc.. This test system crashed and rebooted after a long list of kext loading messages.

I then replaced mach_kernel with the one in v1_rc12. Now, the system would boot into single user so I could finish the tet system build instructions. When I rebooted the system, I found it would boot with no kernel keywords required.

There were some problems - some I could fix, others are still there.

1) I had USB and Firewire support so my external drives were available

2) There was no networking support - I pulled the IONetworkingfamily.kext extension from my main system partition and that fixed that.

3) the smb/cifs windows file sharing didn't work - I applied a fix package that had been made to correct this problem in 10.4.7 to correct that

4) safari crashes just after displaying the main window - firefox and Opera appear to work correctly

5) the calc dashboard widget crashes

Update: most all widgets crash

6) Software update crashes when it attempts to display it's list

7) About this mac crashes

Update: fixed this by using the loginwindow.app from the jas-10.4.7-install.iso

8) system profile does not supply hardware data

Update: fixed this by using the platform reporting coreservices code from my main system

9) I can't get above 1024x768 display resolution even with a "Graphics Mode" setting. Don't know if that has anything to do with the other crashes or not.

For now, it's sleep time - will test more in the morning.

ps: - almost forgot - semthex - thanks for the v1_rc12 kernel :thumbsdown_anim:

The VIA C7s?

Sorry to go off topic, but has anyone gotten OSx86 (more specifically, the new kernel) working on these chips? They do support SSE3...
