deeveedee
@mnfesq Thank you for the trip through memory lane! I am using VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2 to detect the 2 headphone jacks without issues. I then created a multi-output device with Audio MIDI Setup and all is working perfectly. My subwoofer on 1 output and my speakers on the other. Works great! Loving VoodooHDA.kext in macOS Tahoe. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/314406-voodoohda-312/page/40/#findComment-2848845 Share on other sites
oSxFr33k
4 hours ago, mnfesq said: Boy, this is a real throw-back to the past for me. I had an HP laptop with a subwoofer that could not be detected until I modified the VoodooHDA.kext. Look at Item 22 in the first post of this thread. It doesn't tell you how to modify the .plist for the VoodooHDA.kext but if you already followed the instructions above, it should be detected as an audio device. If you need additional help, let me know. I used to use an app called PTHVolume to have separate volume controls for my main speakers and subwoofer but it is only a 32-bit app and was never written for 64-bit. I searched online for modern alternatives to the app and found this one. I haven't tried it but maybe someone can check it out and see if it works to give separate volume controls in the menu bar for different audio devices. https://github.com/ronitsingh10/FineTune Lastly, here's a link to my modified VoodooHDA.kext that activated my subwoofer. https://www.insanelymac.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=129989 76.03 kB · 32 downloads @mnfesq Thanks, If you look a couple posts up I posted two dumps for some reason the balance control for the front speakers only works in the middle, left or right silences the audio. Also only one of the nodes seem active for the front speakers yet both work in stereo if the balance control is left in the middle, maybe this is why I loose control of balance? The Subwoofer also has two nodes but share Seq 15 I fixed that as well so each one has its own 14 and 15. I fixed Node 20 to have its own non shared Seq # as well yet only Node 23 is activated. Node 20 and 23 make up the front speakers. Look further down patched pins you can see none share he same Seq or node any longer yet I don't have control of Stereo and Node 20 one of the front speakers does not seem to be active. I basically have remapped all the pins using NodesToPatch so they all have their own unique config and seq #. deeveedee
I just installed VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 using MaLd0n's installer package posted here. I upgraded from VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2 by doing the following: SIP: leave csr-active-config = <01000000> (no need to change SIP for upgrading VoodooHDA if you don't reboot after removing the old version of VoodooHDA) Delete the old version of VoodooHDA.kext from /Library/Extensions Run VoodooHDA.pkg Follow prompts to Allow VoodooHDA in System Settings Reboot See my results here. I can only confirm that Audio over DP is detected. Since I am using DP->DVI adapters to displays that do not have speakers, I cannot test audio over DP with my current configuration. I can only confirm that VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 propertly detects dGPU audio. EDIT: @MaLd0n it would be very cool if the VoodooHDA installer allowed for customization of the Info.plist. For example,an option to set VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix=True might be helpful. Just an idea. deeveedee
I read here that ACPI patches for HDEF/HDAS (internal speaker/headphone) help with HDAU (external/dGPU digital audio). I haven't needed to patch HDEF/HDAS for HDAU, so this is just to satisfy my curiosity and for no other reason. Why does applying ACPI patches to HDEF/HDAS help with HDAU audio? What about audio over HDMI/DP is improved by applying ACPI patches to HDEF/HDAS? Thank you for any help with this naive/remedial question. EDIT: I asked ChatGPT and this is the response: 2. ACPI Patches The HDAS device represents the motherboard’s analog HDA audio. HDAU represents the HDMI audio from GPU. You do not need ACPI patches to HDAS to get HDAU working. They are separate devices. deeveedee
I had observed a kernel panic on wake with VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2 / Tahoe 26.4. LockDown
Difference of 3.1.2 & 3.3.4 is plist only? 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/314406-voodoohda-312/page/40/#findComment-2848903 Share on other sites
deeveedee
@LockDown If that is the case and the only difference is the Info.plist, it may be just a matter of time before I see the kernel panic again. I just started testing 3.3.4. EDIT: It does not appear that the "only" changes are the Info.plist. See the github diffs here. deeveedee
After upgrading to VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4, macOS alerts are sounding with what sounds like an echo - they are sounding at least twice. For example, when I empty the Trash, the trash empty sound plays twice or three times. I did not hear this with version 3.1.2. Has anyone else noticed this? EDIT: After reverting to VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2, the alert "echo" no longer occurs. This echo was introduced (for me) after upgrading from VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2 -> 3.3.4. I observe this on two platforms: HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini Desktop HP EliteBook 850 G7 Laptop EDIT2: @Slice and @MaLd0n I have determined that the alert "echo" was introduced after VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.3. After I upgrade from VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.3 -> VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4, I hear a "double alert" when I Move to Trash and Empty Trash. EDIT3: I have further isolated the cause of the alert "echo". The echo was introduced after the first VoodoHDA.kext 3.3.4. If I use this VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4, alerts are normal. If I use this version of VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4, alerts are doubled (I hear the alerts twice). There are only 4 commits between the two versions, so hopefully this helps to find the cause. I am currently using the VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 Pre-Release without issues. EDIT4: Note that I am not using VoodooHDAPrefPane. EDIT5: Both systems on which I have observed this "echo" do not have a dGPU (i.e., no Device HDAU). They have iGPU-only with Device HDAS. deeveedee
I just retested HDMI out with VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 Release. The HDMI-out result is the same for me as with VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 pre-Release: no audio over HDMI. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the latest VoodooHDA HDMI changes are specifically for Radeon dGPU - correct? If so, that would explain why my iGPU-only HP EliteDesk 850 G7 does not have working HDMI-out with VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4. I will continue to use VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 pre-release, since VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 release produces multiple alerts (e.g., when I empty trash, the alert sounds 2 or 3 times). VoodooHDA.kext 3.3.4 pre-release continues to work well for me for internal speakers with my iGPU-only laptop running Tahoe 26.5 beta 2.
